Thanks all for the kind comments. The Knox had Sage pencilled on the box but seems pretty straight deep green and the Mallory is a light beige just darker than Ivory.

Beautiful hats, Robert. The Knox 20 looks like a twin of mine, perhaps a little more saturated color. It's high styled - a favorite.

Robert, both of those are awesome. I would love to find hats like all of yours.
My wife brought home some size 7 hats for me. I'm a 7 3/8 so these will be properly photographed soon along with an OR, a Wormser, a Dobbs, and some others I don't fit.

Ok...a sneak peak at this new lot of oldies but goodies: two black Portis hats which have been worn well and are a bit dusty yet, 3 Marathons, one of which looks like it was worn, a Champ in great condition, a like new, green "The Fad" hat which was a men's store but not sure if it is a vintage hat by the stiffness of the felt.

The Champ. Doesn't look worn but has some minor shaping up to do.

The Marathon Panama. It looks unworn to me. Can't believe a straw this old looks this perfect.

The one I wish was my size so I could give it a good home: greenish gray Marathon which was $5.95 new back in the day. Other than the plastic logo covering which has yellowed and completely disintegrated, it is like new, same as the others.

David, yes, I would wear the heck out of that in the summer months but what can ya do? It has the Marathon sticker in the crown but has Towncraft embossed on the sweat. I really love these old Penney's hats. The fact that you could stroll into the store and pick one off the shelf for six bux just kills me. The Champ is great too...snapping these brims down for the first time was wild because I don't think they have been for some decades. Someone will enjoy these I hope.

Just received this BIN hat originally sold at Saks 5th Ave. I bought it because it was obviously a lightweight hat, in pretty good shape, at a good price.

Looking at it now, I can see that it is actually a Dobbs Double Life (I have 3 others) or Knox Jaguar, as it has the patented double layer of felt and the Dobbs style sweatband bow. The DL is more likely I think, because the Jaguars I have seen were much stingier brimmed. In fact, this has a much broader brim than my other DL's, at about 2 inches.

I am quite pleased.

Interesting, and a nice find. From the size tag it would be on the early side of that style, '55 or '56 most likely. My Dobbs Double Life from the '60s also has a much narrower brim.

Every Saks Fifth Avenue hat I can remember seeing was made for them by Hat Corporation of America, which isn't to say that other manufacturers didn't also have a deal with Saks. Overall, though, I think it's safe to say that most Saks Fifth Avenue hats in at least the 1950s and 1960s will have a Cavanagh/Dobbs/Knox counterpart.

Thanks Brad. I thought of you when I made this post, and knew you'd have some insight. I have Dobbs VVL's with the same dynamic - much wider brims on the earlier hats. I have yet to post them, but will do so soon.

Incidentally, anyone here want a size 7 5/8, 1 3/4 brim Dobbs VVL in grey? I won't sell it for less than full value to an under-informed buyer, but would happily trade it to someone who would appreciate it for an equally hard to find hat from 6 7/8-7 1/8, or a good crown block in almost any size (except 6 7/8), or even make you a special FL price deal.

Has anyone seen an interior like this before for Brooks Brothers? All of the ones I've seen by Lock & Co or Herbert Johnson made for BB mention that on the liner. This just seems to be sewn in a rather haphazard manner and is even crooked.
