Son in 40 yo MC jacket II.jpg
Hi @ all !

Though not being an active poster in here, I’ve followed many threads more or less regularly for almost three years. Before, my „dear“old off-the-peg „mall leather jacket“ started to fall apart after 12 years of wear and I decided to go for a new, high quality one. As probably many others, I started to search on the internet - well, thats how I came here.

Thank you all so much for all the input I got from this forum ! I got loads of useful information about jackets, styles, fit, suppliers and – most of all – leathers. Besides this it has been interesting to see a few users seeming to consider the choice of supplier (almost ?) a „political issue“. Not really sure if I recognize this as passionate commitment or sheer nastiness. Whatsoever, that’s not my business. But I have to admit that I liked those threads best in which jackets were introduced by „don’t judge the maker, it’s about the product !“ – I think it was Stepehn King who said „It’s the tale that matters, not he who tells it.“.

To cut a long story short, during the past fourteen months I got an Aero 1920‘s Premier WC in brown tumbled CXL FQHH and a SB Roadster in black Warhawk Horsehide. Being aware of „reservations“ regarding SB of many members here (and yes, I read „the thread“), I can (and have to) say that both jackets are just great ! Service of both Aero and SB in finding the right leather, size, hardware and customization was just commendable ! And I’m afraid I wasn’t the easiest customer …

So, from my point of view those looking for a good supplier of a high quality leather jacket will find both of them doing a really good and recommedable job. As usual, ymmv.

Last year I decided to present both my kids (f, 25 and m, 22) a good leather jacket each – to enable them to own and wear it when at my age and not getting one only when they should enjoy it, well worn and „proven“. ;-)

So, I took them for a „kinda weekend“ to Galashiels to visit Aero in early September to be sure to have the right sizes and to see and touch the different styles and leathers „in person“. Besides this it was amazing to see the different linings, different hides, how they are cut and what makes a (processed) animal’s hide a (wo)man’s jacket. We were also impressed to experience the nice but diligent atmosphere at Aero‘s production and, last but not least, I enjoyed waving to Julie (who made my WC). By the way … have you ever seen an approx. 80 year old shearling (military) winter jacket, just reconditioned ? We have :-D

Is it worth to „pop in“ at Aero ? Absolutely !

Both my children were measured and selected the jackets they want. My daughter (25) went for a black soft Italian horseheide MC jacket (material beautifully soft and valuable in touch – I wish I was female ! ;-) ) with Royal Stewart lining, my son went for a black CXL FQHH Board Racer with Dark Douglas lining, both modified individually. Denny took lots of time to explain everything, to answer questions, to give advice and to show us around. Again, thanks alot, Denny, you did a great job !

In the meantime both jackets arrived. Fit of both is perfect, my kids are happy and have right away started to break them in (in quotes for my daughter’s one, actually no need to „break“ anything).

Anyway, I’d like to post a pic of an approx. 40 yo MC jacket (worn by my son). Though imho it suits as it had been made for him it belongs to one of his friend’s father – who’s definitively not willing to sell it or swop. We have no details of shown jacket (e.g. brand or size – but to give you an idea, my son is 180 cm / 5‘11“, 82 kg / 180 lbs). However, I thought some of you may enjoy just the look of it. For sure it has been worn, loved and spent some time on the bike !

Sorry if my English lacks „the final touch“. Corrections welcome (I mean it !).

The black Italian soft horsehide is a particularly good leather for women's jackets. It's wearable straight out of the box, has a great drape, but still a good durable hide.

Looks good! I've also just bought my 20 year old daughter a vintage Kett "perfecto" style bike jacket. And I'm also a new member here so feel a bit awkward saying welcome but "Welcome"!
