I think those plain nickle/ silver hardware ruined them, why don't Lewis just order a custom button cap in gunmetal, brass, and silver, and just use that instead of that leather patch to protect their brand and look subtler and nicer doing it

Because the patch has been there since the 60’s ;) some like it some don’t but it has always been there.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I thought this might be where to ask my question...does anyone know who made this jacket? I like so much about it from it's simplicity to the heaviness of the leather. Any help would be much appreciated!

Don't know who made it but it looks heavily faux distressed with those rolling zippers. That's inviting broken zipper teeth and zipper failure. Maybe a Japanese maker? A wild guess.

I’m excited that someone is finally making a leather Chimayo jacket, but because it is RRL I’m terrified by what the price might be...

Very spendy, doubtless. Though if you could get the textile materials, anyone who makes a nice grizzly could do you somethin very similar? I like it a lot too.

Very fashion forward version of the Perfecto type. Interesting look - though the added body length trows the proportions badly off to my eye.

Great colours. I'm increasingly taken with that petrol-blue shade, very reminiscnet of a lot of the bike leathers I grew up seeing around in the early eighties.

The Lewis patch is a now-traditional part of their jackets which a lot of the Lewis market very much wants (it's a big thing in Japan, I gather, which makes sense given how many Lewisalike brands there are out there). Not really much different than all the denim big names - Levis, Lee especially - having their name labels on their denim jackets, though they also have the branded stud buttons. If you look at the jacket on Lewisleathers.com, though, you'll see that the fastenings on these jackets are snaps rather than buttons, so that is perhaps why they are unadorned. The jeans-type buttons must be available, as they are on the Lewis own-brandselvedge jeans: http://www.lewisleathers.com/productinfo.html?code=DenimRegularLLJ001 The jeansare amde by a supplier in Japan, though, but I guess if you wanted to have those instead of snaps and Lewis were willig to do a version like that, they could order some up from their Japanese jean-maker... The leather patch might be adifferent matter. Notably, though, Lewis have always made these with plain stud-popper fasteners rather than buttons, so the lack of a logo on them may even predate the logo patch.

That's a thing I've never been able to pin down. Looking at actual examples of vintage Lewis jackets, the best I can make out is that they introduced the logo label on jckets across the range at some point between 1968 and the early 70s. I tink there were some of these must be in the wild without a logo patch - see the photos here: http://www.lewisleathers.com/productinfo.html?code=988 Western Jkt - Lewis introduced this model in 1968, and the potos that appear to be from the 68 catalogue, I can't see a logo patch on the jackets there? It's an established part of the Lewis look now, but it wasn't always.

Look at this absolute belter from Four Speed Leathers :

I love this. I've not always been a fan of cafe racers, but one of these like that but perhaps navy instead of black....

I wasn't really sure where to put this. Sadly it's just a fashion jacket, but I absolutely adore the retro 60s-ish vibe and colouring.

Where I am at the moment, I'm not looking to buy another jacket unless it can serve proper duty as a riding jacket - so this one's out of the question. But where can I find something similar that will work on the bike?

I would imagine Bates could make something like this for you.

I hadn't thought of Bates. I was pondering on Goldtop's customising options, or bracing myself to fork out on a coloured Lewis.

It'll all be down the line though, I've got to shift some other jackets to free up the moolah.
