SUMMARY: The article focuses on the Cuenca industry featuring K. Dorfzaun mostly and describes the Cuenca hats through his story.
However at the end it mentions Pile as the origin of the finest Panama hats. Dorfzaun also cooperated with Rosendo to get real Montecristi. Pile was described as inaccessible since one bridge was destroyed or some such. Most people leave that village to become maid in Venezuela or armed secy guards at tuna factories. The hats are woven for 3 months and Don Rosendo is mentioned as an active hat buyer - 10 years ago. The US ambassador did purchase @ Don Rosendo the correct way - without bargaining as he knew how valuable Montecristi fino was.

I guess my contribution to this thread is just to say that I need to do some business with Panama Bob this summer. I'm tired of my cheap Panama that won't hold its shape.

All I have to do it finish paying for car windshields, college tuition for daughters, and a few other incidentals!
