Bit of fun, but I also thought this thread could be helpful to provide insight into the knowledge and justified experiences of our members.

"What brands or models of outerwear do you find overrated or significantly overpriced".

Bonus final thought: If you ever question the amount you spend on this hobby, feel a little better about yourself knowing it's likely a drop in the ocean compared to buying a couple of these jackets: https://www.ascotshoes.co.uk/collections/crocodile-jackets

There is no such thing as an overpriced item as long as there are buyers for it. If I can't find a buyer, then either nobody needs it or it's too expensive. And then maybe it was overpriced ;)
And where you draw the line is entirely up to you.
I guess how long is a piece of string, some things are and always will be, luxury items, it's why I named Ralph Lauren as one, even though I like the look, I've had Ralph Lauren military copy jackets past ;)

And in your own experience, what brand, pattern, model etc do you draw the line and consider it either overrated, overpriced, or both?

And on the other end of the string, there may be lower price and obtainable brands/models that you'd still consider a waste of money for what you get!

For those unaware, what makes them overrated or overpriced to you for what you get? Materials? Patterns? Quality? Too popular?
When I get that "I want it" feeling and I can't afford it. Then it's overpriced.

But in reality, it is overpriced if I subjectively feel that I am not getting my money's worth. And my own sense of value also comes into play. For example, I know people who spend a fortune on a bottle of wine and consider it valuable. I would never dream of doing that myself. Conversely, I spend vast amounts of money on clothes, which others do not do.

Those jackets are ludicrously priced

As much as I consider myself an Alden and Crockett n Jones fanatic and own dozens of their products, paying 1250e in the EU for a pair of shell cordovans is lunacy.
I was also a bit disappointed from the deerskin quality of my Thedi.
And todays aero's prices are insane.
Totally agree there is a point where passion tips into pure price insanity even for great makers like Alden or C&J. Feels like some brands are really testing loyalty lately, and not always backing it up with consistent quality.

All of it. Except Vanson.

I've never owned a Vanson but I definitely agree with the first part.

Overpriced is always in the eye of the buyer of course, but I think we often forget that all of this stuff is just clothes.

Literally no one else in the world cares if the jacket you're wearing cost £50 or £5000, it's still you in it. Its only value is in how you feel wearing it.

If you reckon you feel £4950 better about yourself wearing jacket b instead of jacket a, then you go for it.

But I always feel selfish and superficial about spending money on something so irrelevant.

Fun topic and a good discussion starter.
Personally, I don't understand what's fun about discussing high pricetag items just for the sake of it.

I used to work as a sales associate in a high end fashion store. On Sundays we always had a lot of window shoppers, usually people from outside of town who wanted to see what's going on at 'the expensive shopping street'. They came into the store not because they were interested in the items but because they wanted to see the high price tags and comment on how ridiculous our prices were.

I never understood this phenomenon. Why spend your precious time looking at things you can't afford or have no intention of buying? I can think of better ways to spend my spare time.

I have some nice vintage and different clothing Barnabus, but here in Madrid where everyone can be different nobody knows the difference in what I'm wearing, unless you go to one of the city centre districts like the west end of London here in Madrid then you'd see some expensive clothing, minority few affordability though
