I hope this message is acceptable.
Byson are a UK outfit specializing in repairing original and reproduction* flying kit. We are looking for a genuine WW2 A2. If you have one that is in dire need of work we would be happy to do this for you IN EXCHANGE FOR ALLOWING US TO TAKE IT APART AND USING IT TO CREATE A PATTERN. We would of course return it to you with all needed work done, jacket cleaned and conditioned. If you are interested please contact us at:

[email protected]

This is another of those projects we don't do :)

* We will alter reproduction gear but not wartime garments.

I will leave this up in this section for a day or so and then move it to Outerwear. May get more hits there?
That is great - we have an idea for a jacket that will NOT actually be a repro - more a one-off but the boss INSISTS that the base pattern MUST be as close to the original as possible - and that includes the construction details. That no one will ever see :)

Is this for a different project than the shearling one on your website? That looks an interesting idea, combining elements of a B3 and an Irvin.

It is for a project quite similar but if I say any more than that I will be on dry bread and cold water for a year :)

..........I have permission to speak :)

We (the boss) thinks that the original (especiall early wartime) jackets are still the best looking – if you have ever seen a silk-lined pre-war example you will see that we mean). There are however some details in the construction that are there for speed and economy of mass production and some of the contractors did things in...original ways that do not do the jackets any favours so our initial intention is to produce a jacket to the early war / pre-war pattern (if possible) but made as Gucci (or someone at that standard) might have done it before they became a consumer brand. It will almost certainly be a one-off and done for our own satisfaction (and I bet the damned thing will be too small for ME).

To be honest it probably won’t be easy to spot the difference externally but….****** perfectionists :)

I am pretty sure the girls have something else in mind but that is above my pay grade.
