FROM EASTMAN'S WEBSITE:
We offer this copy typifying the 1942 production run when fine-quality flight jackets were still being made with a minimum of sheepskin panels. Paramount prerequisites of quality and authenticity have been strictly adhered to throughout, resulting in an RAF flight jacket of unparalleled accuracy. Original details include: specially selected hides tanned & dyed to match the best-made, 1942-produced flight jacket; no-pocket construction (hand-warmer pockets never appeared on the original RAF jackets); heavy double-sided leather pull tabs on genuine brass zips; reproduction zippers on all-cotton tape (zippers are custom made to wartime design including the slider box cup - a feature found only on ours and original examples); ventilated arm pit gussets; all-cotton elasticized strap behind collar for quickly fastening this up; hand-sewn linen spec. label and more... This is the definitive copy of the RAF 1942-pattern Aircrew jacket. Take your flight into Royal Air Force history with this unmistakable classic!
THIS JACKET:
This is an older Eastman Irvin, which features Eastman's own brass Eastman zippers. It has some minor discoloration to the fleece owing to its age--this can only be seen in bright sunlight (I only discovered it when I was taking pictures) and in any case won't be seen when this is worn.
It does have a tear on one sleeve which has been crudely repaired where a patch was removed--this looks like a field-expedient repair between sorties! This is an easy fix, though--patch it and move on, or else ignore it. It also has some wear to the fleece at the end of the sleeves, and some small pinholes where another patch was removed lower down the sleeve. Thee can be ignored.
All of the zippers work beautifully fluidly.
Overall, then, this is a terrific older example of an Eastman Irvin with some lovely patina.... so much so I might decide to keep it! It's incredibly warm.
It was, of course, Made in England.
Eastman Irvins currently cost $2,100.
Asking just $350, or close offer, boxed, shipped, and insured in the USA.
