Just drafted a new pattern, and made a jacket up... just curious if you guys can give some honest opinions of the finished product.

Thanks for the comments. I too think the collar could be a little larger, but on this first one, went for a snug fit at the neck and this is the result. I have also discovered that I think that I want to "Blunt" the bottom edge slightly as it comes to too severe of a point. Also, the pockets are a tad too long at 8" and I will opt for a 6 or 6.5" size in the second edition.

As to hide and lining, this is a glove tanned steerhide in 3oz. Which has a really nice drape and hand to it. The color is actually olive, but my camera leans to the yellow side...argh! If you look at the exposed collar leather in the label shot, that is the best representation of color in the photos here.

Lining is 100% Linen which is VERY comfy to the touch and to wear. I also really like the look of it, as it looks a lot like the originals that I have seen with an almost muslin type liner.

Overall, I'm thinking it looks pretty good. I do agree that the collar could be a little bigger and the side adjusters look a tad clumsy but this is something I feel is quite common on jackets with them in that spot. They always look like an after thought to me. The skills it takes to even get to this point are a wonder to me and to be wholeheartedly encouraged though. Keep it up.

Thanks for the sneak peek into the process.. for me. yes to larger collar, I also would like to see a button cuff on the sleeve and the use of buttons instead of snaps at the bottom.

It just doesn't work for me. I'm sure at some point I'll get one of your jacket designs, just not this one. But lest anyone here think I have any flair for taste or style, my wife would be more than happy to correct your error.

I prefer a square bottom on my jackets although I like the rest of the design a lot. I prefer it be either a real green or a real tan.... the in-between doesn't work for me.

I agree with the larger collar. I also would prefer the back yoke to not be straight across...V or 1 piece.
Ditto with the button cuffs....
Would love to see it in that awesome black you use for the weathered Buco.

I'm in the minority in liking the small stand collar. I would like to see a throat latch to secure the collar. All in all a good jacket …

Nice jacket! for me the vents in the sleeves need moved higher towards the armpits.

Dave, glad to see you go after this pattern! I'd go full button front, wider collar (as has been suggested), and slightly less drop at the front waist. I want one

Hi Dave - I like this style quite a bit and would treasure it if it were mine. But, since you asked, here are a few nit-picky observations: I like the size of the collar - any larger and it would be too big to wear turned up. I also like the cuffs without buttons or snaps. I like snaps at the bottom instead of buttons, but they would look better if they were dark, to better match the buttons and continue the button line. The pockets do seem a little large, and could be pulled back away from the centerline a bit. Color is blah. I kinda like the zippered chest pocket, but agree that a flapped button one would provide a more coherent vintage look. It's my size ...why don't you want to sell it? : )

Cool! I'm not a fan of dropped fronts so I'd want to see it squared off or at least not as exaggerated. Buttons all the way down for sure. I agree with throat latch and flapped button chest pocket (or patch pocket) and perhaps button loops on the waist pockets. And if it was mine I'd want button cuffs and buckle side-adjusters instead of D rings (and the whole thing in seal or russet capeskin).

Love the overall design.
I like the collar size. Prefer less of a drop in the front, buttons rather than snaps on the bottom front.

As I said when Dave put this into the "Alternative Aeromarine" thread, I think the original predated zips, so I would do without the zippered pocket. I also agree with others that buttons on the waistband would be better than snaps
