I would say Johnnie Walker blue is the best blend you can get. If I'm mixing a drink with scotch I like to use Johnny Walker Red still good but I can still make rent if I go threw more then one bottle a month.

I don't drink Johnnie Red any more. For one thing, I couldn't stand it on an empty stomach. For another, it was the favorite of 2 of my old New York drinking buddies, both of whom failed to take care of themselves and checked out rather young.

I must say JW Red was quite unfortunate in taste, JW Black being not much better. JW Green was fine, but not something I would drink outright. JW Blue was fine as well, and it's something I would drink again, but as you all know, it's $$$.

I do like single malts (Laphroig being one of my favorites) but I tend to be stingy with my money and feel that the blends offer me more "bang for my buck."
I probably shouldn't have added "totally" to my earlier post..........looking back, it seems kind of argumentive, which it was NOT intended to be (sorry if it came off that way  )

Chivas 18 yr old is probably one of the best I've tasted and I also enjoy Dewars 12 yr old from time to time.

Single malts just seem to be way overpriced for what I get out of them.....

I see you're in CA.
If you're near a trader Joes, give this a whirl:

For a daily drinker I've switched from Laphroig to this... and it's $18 a bottle.

You have expensive tastes. ;) :p
Have you tried Dewar's 18 year? You might save a bit. It tastes better to me as well. [huh]
No I have not I will have to see if I can find it. Living in Utah we have a very limited section and all the state run stores carry the same stuff. Maybe next trip to WY or CO I will look around for it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that a state can run liquor stores. :p I can buy anything I want out here and perhaps that is why I can't imagine being limited. [huh]
Give it a try if you can find it. :cheers1:

The only nice thing about it is that you know you will pay the same price no matter what store you go to.

Finished up a bottle of Blue Label with a friend the other evening which was rather pleasant, the Black still has the best "bang for buck" though.

I agree, Johnnie Black Label, to my pallet at least, gives the the best "bang for my buck." I wonder if this might be a regional phenomenon, though. Last time I traveled out of state I noticed Johnnie Black being sold for about $10 more than it can be had in my area. I can usually find it for less than $25.00 (including taxes).

Indeed I have to try this one. I have always enjoyed the peat smoke flavor of the Islay single malts.:cheers1:

I'm curious to know what people here think about Johnnie Walker. I had some of the red label earlier today and found it rather harsh, and therefore not too good. I've heard the black label is good stuff though.

The Black is very good. The Green is a vatted malt. But all Johnnie Walkers are much too expensive. You can get a good bottle of Glennfiddich or something similar single malt for the price.

If you want to have some tasty scotch and don't want to pay a lot, try Grants (made by Glennfiddich and in a similarly triangle bottle) or Ballantines (very sweet and smooth, creamy)
