I was just reading about the Straw Hat Riot of 1922 on another thread, and one click led to another, and I was chatting with a coworker about the Susquehanna Hat Company, and other old stuff like that, and I started thinking about old fashioned phrases. One that came up was "Johnny pump" the old fashioned name for fire plug here in New York. Another was "Owl Wagon" the term for a diner (e.g. in Sullivan's Travels, Joel McRae meets Veronica Lake in an Owl Wagon). I was wondering, who can come up with some vintage phrases that would be of interest?
