Yep. I had an oyster roast at my house just this weekend. When somebody made a similar comment there was a quiet pause at the table for a few seconds...then everyone went right on slurping down supper.Or people who wouldn't think of eating snot would eat an oyster (innards look like a giant booger).

In Costa Rica, there are some small insects that, eaten raw, taste just like black pepper. (Yes, I tried a live one.) They make a good seasoning if real pepper isn't handy.

And if you ever saw what the Atlantic Blue Crab eats, you would be convinced that crabs more than just look like bugs..

Lots of insects get eaten in North America too. It's just that it's done unintentionally as bugs and bug bits end up in food without our being aware of it. I suppose it proves the old saying that what you don't know won't hurt you.
