BRAVO, Larry! You nailed it! It looks like a vintage specimen, to me! Very well done! My hat production has stalled of late. Sewing machine broke down. Mid-winter blues, too!

Dean,
Not bad, especially for hand done. This would pass for an old salt in the field. I certainly wouldn't think it would stand out at all. You may want to turn this one into a marked up one, like some that have been seen "field altered" with dates and quotes from relevant battles.
Also, I have a 7 3/4 that just came in for conversion, which will be available for sale as an 1889 in a week or so. Anyone interested?

Could the 7 3/4 be stretched or re-blocked up to 7 7/8?
I'd have to find someone here who could re-block and do the sweatband. I know of only one place to call - let me see if they can do it. Of course, if it sells in the meantime, don't tell someone else no.
Anyone see this one up on eBay lately? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
