New to wearing hats question

I wanted all of your opinions. I am fairly new to wearing hats. I would like to know if it is a good idea to use the aerosol protection spray for a felt hat. I have a light colored fedora and know it will probably change the color slightly.

I've never used anything as a protective device for my hats. If it needs cleaning to remove a small smudge I just use water...some mild soap if necessary. I got an oil stain on one of my silverbelly hats once...blackish, used oil...and removed it with shampoo and hot water.

But as for an overall protective spray, never have bothered with it. Good, quality felt hats are made to get wet and made to be worn. Dust and dirt come with the process. Just gently wash and spot clean when needed.
