Wow. Good job.after brushing and steam the hat, here are the results
Welcome!Hiya,
This looks like the place to introduce myself.
I've fancied the idea of wearing a Fedora for quite a while but was torn between not wanting to buy something cheap and it being a waste of money, or buying something a bit more expensive...and it being a waste of money.
Anyway, a friend is holding a themed Gangsters and Flappers party in the summer, so I revisited the idea as a good excuse to get myself into a Fedora.
After Googling for a while, I stumbled on an eBay seller, Try and Lilly who make the Linney brand - also only about 30 miles from where I live, in Liverpool (UK), and they have fur felt Fedoras at an absolute bargain prices of £16.99 - £20.99 with delivery...I now have three, the first was a tad too small, but I think I'll try to stretch it, and use it as a 'learner' hat.
So, I'll be around, probably more lurking to learn stuff more than posting for now.
If anyone is interested, this is the ebay link for the Linney that I now have:
Linney Men's Fur felt country style fedora hat Save £££££ buy direct | eBay
Manufuctured from a very high quality fur felt. It has a 7cm brim with a plaited leather band. This hat has a white satin lining and a real leather inner headband. Available in brown or stone. This is a discontinued style for us and the price reflects this.www.ebay.co.uk
Thank you. I bought the ribbon and assembled it myself. Found a tutorial online and thought it looked reasonably straightforward. My wife is quite handy with a needle and thread so it was good to know she could bail me out if it went wrong.Hi BigHat, welcome! The new ribbon looks just right on your nice Christie's fedora. I have a vintage fedora that needs a new ribbon something bad. I had a hard time finding a suitable ribbon last time I looked for one. Did you assemble the ribbon or is is store bought?
Thank you for letting me join, been reading over the forums and can't seem to find any information on my find.
I've been all over the the Google searches, can't really find any solid information on this find. Any help Identifying would be most great.
Yeah, I have a few other pictures...I think I saw that hat recently for sale. It could be a hat made by a foreign company under license from Stetson. Are there any other markings on the sweatband? Can you provide clearer photos? It would also be helpful if you could fold the leather sweatband down and look for labels glued to the felt that is covered by the sweatband.
Yeah, I have a few other pictures...
Yeah, I kinda hit the wall at it being German. Had read some information that things have been licensed under the Stetson name. Any information is good informationLooks like it was made in Germany under license from Stetson. I believe Mayser once held the license. Maybe @mayserwegener will shine some light on this: he is THE MAN when it comes to German hats. It might take him a few days to get back to you.
Thanks for the comments! First, let me say I’ve seen a lot of fine looking fedora hats on this site. I really do like the the look and style of most all the hats I’ve seen here. As far as who told me they don’t look good on me, we’ll, I guess that’d be me . It’s probably more of a confidence thing as they are uncommon here and will draw attention and remarks. Not that they’re necessarily bad remarks but more of the G Man, Indiana Jones, or 40’s gangster variety lol. I’ve even been jokingly referred to as a pimp while wearing a fedora. The Akubra styles seem to blend in much better with my “style”; carhartt pants or jeans, boots, flannels for cool weather, or T shirts and polos in warm weather. The Campdraft I ordered will be more of a dress hat for times I dress up a little more than usual; church and date night, etc. Most importantly, full brim hats will give me the protection I need and I can look somewhat stylish at the same time. Win, win.Welcome Phil! My question to your intro above is, who said you didn't "look right" in your Fedoras? I bet you really do, sight unseen. But as you point out, there is a hat for every style. I hope you find styles that work for you.
Regards,
Will
