Hello everyone,

Im quite of a new member here and this is my first real posting on this awesome forum. Recently i purchased this peacoat which at first i thought its just one of those 60s or 70s peacoats that you can many times sea in Eastern Europe (thats where im from). But at a closer inspection and few opinions of my friends im quite positive that is 1920s or earlier peacoat. Some even said it could be rare 1890s peacoat.

The condition on the coat is great. The wool is fully intact and there is no moth holes whatsoever. All the buttons are present, although there is some dirt (that is probably easy to clean) on third button on the right side which is pictured on picture 9 and in the message under on the 4th picture. The collar and cuffs are made out of astrakhan fur, collar being well preserved, the cuffs do have some damage as seen on pic 6 and 7. That in my opinion is also the only con of the coat. Lining is very nice and there are no tears on it. Obviously pocket liners are a little dirty. The size on the jacket is also quite big, i suppose its around EU52 or European large. The measurements are following:

Back, pit to pit: 54cm/21.25 inch
Chest, pit to pit: 55cm/21.65 inch
Shoulder to shoulder: 46cm/18 inch
Sleeves from shoulder seam to cuff 65,5cm/25.75 inch
Full length: 91cm/35.8 inch

For this very moment the coat is NFS but after i gather enough information i will most likely put it up for sale or even more likely, offer it for trade for clothes of the 1930s that would fit me since i dont see myself really wearing it much. I pictured what i thought was the most important, but if i missed something that could help you date it do let me know. I am curious to hear your opinion on age as well as value since im brand new to vintage selling and dont really know much about prices yet - so im hoping for community to help me out here! Thanks in advance for all your answers!

Kind regards,
Nejc

Here is just a second part with the other pictures that hopefully help! Mostly just close up on those curious and very beautiful liners.

My guess would be 50's but could also be 60's. Not a lot of help but also not much to go off.
It looks like a woman's coat to me

I don't recall seeing men's jackets with that type of collar or cuff from any decade but I could be wrong.

It buttons from left to right, which i forgot to mention. So it is for sure mens coat, why i doubt it being 60s or rather go towards the 20s or earlier is the fact that the lining materials definitelly scream that decade to me, material, buttons and everything else feel old too and every fabric used is 100% natural.

About mens jacket, here are just two photos that are 40 years apart, that show similar style peacoat worn. First is from 1959 of Macmillan and Khruschev, second one is from 1917. And the cut itself, although with differences, reminds me to those used by US/British navy in the late 19th-early 20th century. You can see that on the last photo.

I agree, the lining and the pocket bags look like turn of the century to teens to me. The fancy cuff style does seem like a woman's coat though.

Not to get your hopes down, but I don‘t think a wool coat made by an unknown Eastern European maker will sell for much. The repro stuff fanclub is mostly about american brands and styles and very focused on a very few popular brands of that era. @tweedydon every now and then sells vintage (cashmere-)wool coats for very little money - they are not much sought after.

I could see the womens style coat indeed, however the coat can only button from left to right, not like some other coats or jackets that could button both ways.

I honestly think that it could be Italian made too. I bought it very near the border with Italy and well, the craftmanship is very high. But pretty sure the maker will stay unknown. I do also realise that such coat made by US company would go for much more. Its just the first peacoat being that early that i see, thats why i imagined it could be worth something. A friend of mine that sometimes resells stuff in the US said he would not sell it under 300 euros.
I don't know what it is, but whatever it is, it isn't US Navy Issue.
That i was quite sure of, just said there is ''general'' resememblance.
