I’ve always loved Aero’s Highwayman…the lower waistband and the side buckles make it such a timeless classic. But I’ve always been apprehensive about ordering the Highwayman because of that wider “boxy” fit wouldn't work for me. So my solution- start with the tighter streamlined Sheene, and then add the Highwayman details. I knew I was out on a limb requesting these modifications from Aero, but Carrie understood from the start what I was trying to achieve and my reasoning behind it… and she was very supportive.
This is the third Aero Sheene I’ve ordered. Since my last Sheene was a bit shorter than my liking, we added another inch in body length to the measurements. I again specified the August collar and Aero’s new blackened brown Vicenza, in a smooth finish… so that any patina would come from honest wear. Out of my three Sheenes, right out of the box this one felt instantly “right” and has become my favorite. Just not sure what to call it… Maybe ”Sheene-Man?” “High-Sheene?” Or maybe it deserves its own name…assuming Aero ever makes it again.
Once again, a big thanks to Carrie for all her help on this one!
Here are the order particulars:
STYLE- Sheene (Café Racer with August collar) with front and back design of the standard Highwayman, Medium Brown stitching, sleeve zips positioned like on Board Racer, handwarmer zips closing to down position and no windflap
Back- with “V” yoke and lower panel, just like on standard Highwayman (no shoulder gussets and no kidney panel):
ZIPPER METAL TYPE- Regular brass Talon front zipper (Sunburst box) with regular brass chain pull on chest pocket and regular brass Talon bell pulls on handwarmer pockets
LINING- Wine cotton sateen with wine cotton sateen in the sleeves
LEATHER- Vicenza Horsehide
COLOUR- Blackened Brown
GRAIN- Mostly smooth
Regular Aero Label; new Thurston label in lower front left hem
