I don't know about everyone else but I am looking forward to this movie more than any other in recent memory (except Crystal Skull). I have always believed Sean Connery was the definative 007 until Daniel Craig. I am liking him more than Connery based on Casino Royale and the trailers for Quantum. His Bond is not pretty, has intensity and brings a real world attitude. I like the fact that they are relying more on his abilities than the high speed gear/effects of Moore and Brosnan. Never could stand Moore's Bond but I liked Brosnan although he was still too "pretty".

My least favorite Bond was Timothy Dalton.. I think he made 3 movies and none of them very well remembered.. By myself, and i am sure others..

My company takes us all out to a movie every few months. The new Bond movie is next month's choice. Opening day. Can't wait. They took us to Casino Royale too. Connery was always my favorite Bond, Craig is up there with him. Plus, he looks so much like my horse's vet. lol

The tune really doesn't go with it, but the action sequences are great and will certainly put our members in the mood for the upcoming new 007 movie. Let's hope it's as good as the first Daniel Craig outing

Um...it's a spoof theme tune. The video was put together by the comedian who wrote the song, who also thinks the Quantum of Solace is a silly name. I thought people might find it amusing as I did.

Not trying to be contrary, but...

Is it wrong to say I prefer the old-school slightly cheesy Bond? I don't watch them for realism. Besides, Craig looks too much like Vladimir Putin for my taste.

1. Your opinion is valued and valid. Heterodoxy is good. We hate yes-men.

2. I agree that he looks like Putin. But Putin looks pretty cool too -- a badass. Both he and Daniel Craig look like they could actually do some damage unlike Pierce B. When I saw Pierce B. without a shirt in one of his Bond films my reaction was "I could kick that guy's ___ in a heartbeat." Bond is supposed to be one of the world's top assassins. Sean Connery looked tough.

3. I love the new Bond, though. They are doing something different and I like it. A lot.

Daniel Craig as Bond...

Agree with Doran - spot on.

This Bond is a flawed character and something of a 'vintage' tragic hero. He's the sum of all his experiences (as we all are) and his have left him as a detached, lonely figure who in many ways 'feels' he can only trust in himself (and even that is in question). He looks like he could go over the edge and inflict needless damage and commit atrocities.
He wouldn't be out of place in a black uniform in 1930's Germany - he has that coldness and detachment about him, where he is prepared to do the worst in the name of what he feels/believes to be right. But 'we' trust that he is one of the 'good guys.' We live in a world where we are happy to pay others to do the nasty things for our benefit (as long as we don't see it and pretend it never happens). We need Bonds.
The fact that he has the potential to sew seed of doubt in our minds that 'maybe' he isn't such a 'nice/good' guy - makes for an even better, more dynamic character!!
Personally, I don't think he is a nice guy, but he gets the dirty laundary work done. Plus, he's a very screwed up guy who has the self control 'for now' to keep the lid on. The fact that the lid is rattling about and we cannot predict if it might come off, well... I like him even more for that!!

Much as I prefer Sean Connery as Bond, change is inevitable with this venerable franchise. (It seems wrong to use James Bond and venerable together doesn't it?)
With the exception of George Lazenby (one film), all the incarnations of Bond after Connery were too smarmy for my taste. I prefer the edge that Craig brings to the character.
Now, if they could somehow enlist Sean Bean as his nemesis in a film. That would be fun!

I agree. We don't see enough of his work on this side of the pond. I enjoyed his work as Richard Sharpe in the Sharpe series and in The Field with Richard Harris. And, he's from South Yorkshire, a part of England I've always wanted to visit. Maybe someday.
