New Aero Hooch Hauler Pics & Review

As posted on my recent thread " How long is too long?", and for anyone interested in this style, I thought I'll share an overview and my impressions

This did take a little longer to arrive than previously experienced, but arrive it did and once it was in hand and the scent of horsehide started permeating the house, , all my previous babble seemed suddenly very irrelevant!

I had been wanting one of these for a while and with a bit of sacrifice, & savings which involved moving on some other pieces I was able to pull the proverbial trigger.

Time didn't allow for a road trip to Galashiels and I ended up ordering through Bolt Motorcycle in London. Andrew was uber-helpful and being the official London stockist we were able to handle the samples, discuss the finer deets and more importantly try to get the sizing right

His store is well worth visit if you happen to pass by Londinium, it is not often that you can see Aero jackets in the flesh, the store is a welcoming meeting point for the Capital's bikers' community and it's always fun to stop-by. But I digress.

Now, I cannot be very objective looking at myself in anything, leave alone a leather jacket, but it certainly feels pretty good wearing it,
it is off course stiff as hell, but from day one I found a surprising freedom of movement.

I have been wearing it almost every day for over a week (Photos were taken on day 1 and 2) and already feels like it is starting to mould to my body somewhat.

Naturally this is only the beginning of a long journey and there is certainly an element of challenge in beating this thing into submission, but one that I am very much looking forward to (I am wearing it as I write this...lol)

Initially this was going to be a steer affair, but after handling sample and some brainstorming with Andrew I ended up settling for Horse and in retrospect I am glad I did.

The colour had been decided even before landing on the style, I fancied a Cordovan for like ever.

I've got a thing for mouton collars so couldn't pass on that. I know spring is almost here but I figured I will get my own back next long UK autumn/winter. The fur is delightful to touch (if you're into that kinda thing!!) and it really feels pure quality

This batch of HH is quite dark and brownish at first sight, but taking it outside and depending on the light it shows some truly marvellous rich tones of reddish with some surprising blue-ish tinges!

I can foresee some pretty cool marbling developing in time, and already some pretty deep glossy depth is showing on the sleeves...

Incidentally, having ridden my bike to go collect the jacket from Bolt, we realised that the colour perfectly matches the paintwork , something of a bonus that was absolutely unintended (I swear)!!

I love Lochcarron tartan and I am so glad I went for Royal Stewart as I think it really contrasts the reddish hide beautifully

I have gone through the finish, stitching etc and it all looks spot on, I absolutely love the structured back panel

Normally I much appreciate shoulder gussets to help with motion but decided to go clean and simpler on this as the back is already pretty busy. I have to say I haven't so far missed them, early days, time will tell

All in all, I am super-happy with it and IMHO I think Aero has again delivered as expected. Despite the fact that we all like to have a bit of banter from time to time, at the end of the day in terms of service, customer care, professionalism and craftsmanship, I rate them with the best.

As we say in Italy (those crazy says that don't make any sense in English!) "Class is not water" make of it what you will.

Looks fantastic, love the collar. I have a cordovan Bootlegger that has become a go-to when the weather cools. To me, it's one of the most flattering styles you can get, it has a real 30s movie star feel. It took a long time to break in and become completely comfortable, the collar took an age to soften up, but well worth the effort!

Completely agree. I need to replace my original - middle aged spread is controllable round the gut to get back in a beloved jacket, but it turns out spread shoulders (while they're great for increasing the visible impact of what gets shifted over the waistline!) can't be levered into an old jacket so well... That's one side to aging I didn't anticipate. I'm gonig to jump on the same again, a cordo FQHH Bootlegger. But I like the HH so much as well, it's gonig to be another target. Just have to decide whether I want a glorious, reddish brown, or if I'll go really crazy and plump for navy Vicenza...
