I suppose, but I'll bet not everyone knew him :p

Garfield?? One year for Christmas I asked Santa for a giant Garfield stuffed animal and he came through for me..... I loved that darn cat to death lol

Well..if I'd known you then...maybe I could have got Santa a discount,ha!
Jim Davis was a year or two older than me. He now has a big studio(though probably long retired)..and probably owns half of Muncie,Indiana. There were a little less than 100 kids in my Senior class,though..so everybody kinda knew everybody.

I often wonder that if James Dean were alive today would he have been as big a star? Or does his iconic superstardom have more to do with the fact that he died young?

Well..he's stuck in time isn't he. What is amazing to me is the fans that still come to Fairmount and want to know all about him. I'm talking young and old from all over the world. I was talking to a young lady from France last year at the JD festival..and she got quite emotional and started crying that some of us actually knew him. I was standing uptown with three or four buddies after I returned from the Army(1972)..and a guy from Germany broke down and sobbed as we were talking about James Dean. I was stunned. After he wandered off for the grave sight...my friends and I couldn't help but find great amusement with that. JD was kinda old news with us. However..that kind of event isn't really so rare.
I don't really know...but I think he would have went on into a long career. That type of actor(as Brando)was quite popular back then...but I think he would have mellowed..and the greatness..or uniqueness would have followed him into a long career. Then again..there was something about him that seemed to beckon disaster. He was kind of a tortured soul....

Outside of a few summer camps at Culver I never much ventured into Indiana. It always struck me as a place which was more South than its actual location. One could say the same of Illinois, south of Chicago. Still, nothing but good memories of Indiana. And it's the birthplace of one of my favorite people; Johnny Wooden.

Well..Indiana is very rural...and in the '50s-'60s many from the true south migrated to Indiana looking for jobs with certain industry scattered thoughout the state. My family came from N.C....but before the turn of the century. The many small towns throughout HoosierLand do have their colorful charactors,though...and might seem kinda countryfied..or country fried for that matter lol. However..first impressions can be kind of deceiving. Nothern Indiana's lake area is really quite different than the flatlands of mid Indiana..and the rolling forestland of the southern part...and the people differ as well. There are quite a few of the cultured folk, however, placed in their(I mean our;)) developements of highbrowedness without the pickup trucks....deer stands..and bass boats. You just gotta be on the right road.
Hey..there were alot of famous and good people from Indiana. Red skelton..and a bunch more. I must be honest and admit,though..if my kids and grandkids weren't situated here..I'd be somewhere else. I've had the chance to travel through much of the US...live in a few other spots...and fell in love with other places.
