I mean personally, having bought many leather jackets and essentially lost money on the whole thing as we all have, if I were to go out aiming to spend $4k on a jacket, I would just get my ass over to one of the top tailors in London (or depending on style preferences, another city or shop) to get some kind of wool (whether tweed or something else) jacket made and just live in the thing. It'll hold up to it too (old fashioned people like King Charles wear their outerwear until the lining is shredded, then get it relined and wear it for another few decades).
I don't really care too much about having a top end rich ppl tailor I thought high end brands like the one
@Rk1987 posted here Brand and model suggestions : r/leatherjacket (reddit.com)Brand and model suggestions : r/leatherjacket (reddit.com) would last a lifetime and if not you can send it back and get it restitched I wouldn't mind replacing the lining and would be overjoyed if my jacket managed to fit me for 15-20yrs lmao those are just my standards/expectations of a 3-6 grand AUD jacket, I reached out to double helix and they quoted north of 3 grand for their flag waver jacket

It is if you have only one jacket (maybe up to 3) that is one size too small and have worn it for years-decades. Also, because leather jacket stretches to fit the body, you wouldn’t need to get it tailored or go M2M.

If you go with Thedi, he can make you a jacket with any style.
thedi does customs? Though I don't think they do cowhide so I can't go with them as I mentioned colour is the main thing I'm after lol

thedi dosn't have any in the zipper style and I'm not sure if it's horsehide or cowhide. It's my understanding that lighting affects pictures severely, so just to be safe I only want to buy a cowhide, as for tenjin works I would love to buy one but their page is fully japanese and I can't translate it like a normal site lmfao, how do you tell if the jacket is cowhide or horsehide.
Fine creeks? The guys famous for there leather shirts? I thought they only sold black leather no?
thedi has a ton of jackets with zippers

lighting and cowhide makes zero sense.

your connection of cowhide and color makes zero sense as any leather can be dyed the brown you want.

tenjin only makes cowhide

fine creek has tons of brown jackets

If you are going to spend 4k, do some research.

Tenjin only does cowhide and oiled calf (kip), and their site is fully translatable to me in ios safari, their wait times for custom is currently around 5-8 months though

Heres a pre-owned tenjin in regular cowhide that’s almost getting to that nice brown tone but still has to darken a bit

And here’s a place that still has the fine creek top field jacket which is a halfbelt and starts off on the darker side of the target but is very oily with lots of pullup and lightens a bit with sun exposure

And yeah thedi can do any of his designs in any if his available leathers so worth asking what’s available in that color but also several months wait

Oh woah the pics from Wildfang are sick thx! I'll def check those guys out, getting a fully custom jacket seems interesting though I don't think I'll do it without knowing what Johnson's jackets look fully aged

Getting a fully custom jacket is a bad idea in the vast majority of cases. People here used to be super polite and praise people's fit pics whenever a new exorbitantly expensive jacket came in, but I think we've moved away from that. Even in the case of my Johnson jacket, they made me a pattern but that was based on me having owned and worn many types of jackets and having been in their workshop trying out lots of things.

As to "fully aged", I don't know what you mean. Leather ageing? That's not down to the jacket maker; that's down to the leather, and a good maker is going to get you good leather.

That Reddit guy spams that same list repeatedly while knowing little about leather jackets. It has good and bad makers alike and when asked he admits he doesn't have experience with or knowledge of most of them. The few times he gets a reply from someone who knows his stuff he kind of backs down and then posts his list again the next day. I would ignore him and everything on Reddit on the subject.

After reading through this thread, I feel obliged to state that it is possible to be of assistance without being demeaning, although I understand it might be a crazy concept for some. Lets stick to what's helpful and cut the childish crap. If they already knew everything they wouldn't be here asking you folks.

wow lmao do you have an alternate list I could follow? And I still don't think I get it, is the problem that after 5-10 yrs that perfectly fitted jacket would be a waste anyway so I might as well get a made to order that wouldn't fit as well or is it that all jackets will break into your body measurements anyway if so why not go the extra mile and have it tailored to me anyway just to look that little bit better because I don't mind forking $500 to have something look better for 5 years

I’d avoid Fine Creek at all cost, even used. It’s low quality leather masquerading as one of the high-end brands via a lot of marketing.

so you mean if I get a cowhide a lambskin and a horsehide and tan them with the exact same colour the end result when fully aged will all be the exact same colour? I mean from a common sense pov it just made sense that different animal hides would tan differently

hey it's not like this is public knowledge, it's hard to find info on this stuff plus the reason why I'm forking out a lot is bc I don't know anything and wanna get a well-respected brand not the other way around

Here is what the y2 looks aged: Y2 Leather Unboxing at The Shop Vancouver week of Oct 25 (youtube.com) and is the end result that I want my jacket to look like.
Y'2 Steer Oil, Camel color

I would prefer a zipper jacket instead, I don't believe they have one in that colour that isn't suede.
They also use this steer oil leather in their other models. Just search. I've seen this leather used on quite a few of their core models.

Like this one,

Or you can just get the western shirt one and put a zipper in yourself. This way you get both the Mad's jacket look but also zipper function. I've had zipper put in my Type III trucker jackets and they work very well. Edit, like this, https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/what-jacket-are-you-wearing-today.82949/post-3100960

@ton312 already gave you the answer to that.

Get a Schott or a Vanson. They are known quantities, are designed to have patterns that fit a wide variety of people and look good, and are available in a wide range of leathers. You can find most styles between their collections. Not the specific German stuff but then you wouldn't be able to find that at the Japanese makers or Himel or most of the stuff you've mentioned, either.

I think I just have to buy a cowhide to get the colour I'm after it just has that unique cowhide colour this is another vid of it(I want it to look the way it does aged): Y2 Leather Unboxing at The Shop Vancouver week of Oct 25 (youtube.com)
I've seen the video. And I saw three leather shirts in it. One in black, one in natural and one in aged natural. I'm not a specialist, but if you buy a natural leather, whether cow or horse, and you wear the shit out of it, then sooner or later you will end up with your colour.

For me at least, any casual clothing I don't need custom measurements. I have a very average physique, no measurements out of the standard that I need to account for with a custom measurement.

Unless you have some real reason to need a custom measurement, you should really consider ready to wear models as well, they are much harder to mess up, especially if you aren't sure about your measurements or what style you want.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about here.

What do you mean "after 5-10 years that perfectly fitted jacket would be a waste anyway"?

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that custom jackets are not just not necessary for this stuff.

I'm saying that they are usually worse than RTW. It's not the extra mile; it's confusion.
