Amazingly to me, this is my 500th post to Fedora Lounge. When I joined, it seemed I would never hit that number. As I read more and more of the posts, however, I found my knowledge and interest expanding in the 1930’s & 1940’s. People always have said I was born in the wrong era with my taste in big band and standards, and old movies. The Lounge has connected me to some wonderful, and generous, people. My wife though probably wished I hadn’t found it because I spend my money and time chasing down objects of the period. Hats began appearing on my head. Deco cufflinks link my cuffs. I notice cuts and collars. I jokingly say I use my high-tech Ipod and my Sony HD big-screen digital TV to enjoy mono recordings and black and white DVDs.
Funny, but when I attended college back in the late 1980’s. There was guy who hosted a radio show on our campus station featuring all big band music. He wore 30’s type clothes and smoke cigs with a holder. We all called him “The 30’s Guy” and thought he was odd. Now I wish I had paid more attention to him. I have become “The 30’s Guy” without the smoking though.
On the occasion of my 500th post (and some of those added such deep philosophical insight to the discussion like “ditto”), I want to thank everyone for having such a great place. It is nice that we all get along as best we can (banning politics has been smart – and I love arguing politics). The period we love is disappearing as buildings are torn down, people die, and pieces that we would kill for, are thrown out as old and outdated. It is amazing there are as many people here to keep history alive into the 21st Century.
