Bring back Mr. Magoo!

I don't know! I own the VHS of the movie from 10 years ago, and I love it. Always enjoyed the cartoons. He always had a different take on things and made funny comments. I did see Jim Backus in a film noir called Angel Face yesterday and the fellow doing the commentary mentioned he was the voice of Mr. Magoo. My grade school showed the Mr. Magoo version of A Christmas Carol, of all things, and it was the first time I was introduced to that classic Dickens tale.

I feel for the blind, but in this age of PC, you almost have to be so reserve, silent about a favorite hobby, I will always associate Mr. Magoo with the late Jim Backus, sadly missed actor, I enjoy how he used his voice, many Saturday mornings listen to "Road Hog!!!" lol

Wiki Background:

Backus and his wife, Henny Backus, co-wrote several humorous books, including Only When I Laugh. He also co-wrote the 1971 family film Mooch Goes to Hollywood, about a dog who tries to become a movie star. In 1984 he wrote his autobiography, titled Backus Strikes Back.

In his youth, Backus was a student at the Kentucky Military Institute, but was expelled for riding a horse through the mess hall. In 1952 he had a brief scene in Don't Bother To Knock with Marilyn Monroe. Years later, when Backus was a frequent talk show guest, he would recount the time Monroe urgently beckoned him into her dressing room. Once there, she exclaimed in her breathless voice, "Do Mr. Magoo!"

In the late 1950s he made two novelty 45 RPM records, "Delicious" and "Cave Man". They were a zany kind of humor and they did become popular in areas where they were distributed. In 1974, a variety of Jim's old radio bits were compiled into a full-length comedy LP released on the DORE label under the title The Dirty Old Man.

My late stepfather was blind and never had a problem with Mr. Magoo. (He was a prevert but that's beside the point.)
Was just discussing the record Delicious with my best friend the other day. He promised me a copy as he has several 4s.
When I was watching the aforementioned Angel Face, it wasn't Jim Backus' voice that was so distinct but his beautiful and expressive eyes. Who knew?

It's not about Jim Backus: UPA, the cartoon studio that made the original Magoos in the 50s and 60s, is long out of business. Apparently, nobody else ever got the rights to the character, or felt he deserved more play.

I predict an eventual resurrection - we live in times where everything is going to be (pointlessly) redone, sooner or later...
