Motorcycle Jacket Recommendations

Hello all, I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong area, I was looking for some help finding a high quality motorcycle jacket that I can wear off the bike. I really like Aero but not sure if they are more for fashion ? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to the forum so again, I apologize if this post does not belong here

Fox Creek, Vanson, Langlitz are the names that come to mind for top quality, functional, motorcycle leathers (note, leathers often dont come with elbow/shoulder/knee pads). Aerostich and Klim for non-leather. There are others, of course but, these are all good quality.

Not for protection from impact. It will give you a few more seconds of slide time before wearing through compared to a cheap leather jacket. It’s also pretty boxy with poor mobility which isn’t good for riding.

Can you give us more info on what your looking for in a jacket? Protection, armor, aesthetic, comfort, etc…

This is my favorite jacket for riding and strikes a nice balance of the above listed priorities.

I have a cruiser and I'm 53 so Im not out racing all over , mostly in town. I just bought my first motorcycle and am having a great time cruising all over. Armor is def a plus but I wouldn't want to buy a leather jacket with it because Im guessing it would be really hard to move in it

One idea for you is to wear an armored undershirt, such as those made by KNOX, and then you can wear whatever jacket you like. Union Garage and RevZilla sell some good ones. That way you don't have to worry about a jacket including armor.

One idea for you is to wear an armored undershirt, such as those made by KNOX, and then you can wear whatever jacket you like. Union Garage and RevZilla sell some good ones. That way you don't have to worry about a jacket including armor.

It must be remembered that the jacket must then be large enough to wear the protector jacket underneath. Presumably, the jacket is then too big for only t-shirt.
Urban Rider, for example, has the Racing jacket made by Lewis Leather with pockets for thin protectors.
I think only a risk assessment helps here and then just look to what extent the off-motorcycle wearing is important.
By the way, I found my Café racer from aero not optimal for motorcycling. A jacket from BMW, on the other hand, quite excellent (incl. thin protectors).

So I'm a proponent of wearing armor while riding, but as mentioned an armored under shirt will take care of that. So really you just need something with slide protection and any bovine goat or horse hide around 3oz will do that.

Any reputable brand will accomplish this you just gotta figure out the style you want.

Schott Perfecto (crosszip) and cafe jackets are the main two and then gets crazy from there.

Imo for functional riding vanson is probably the best value without compromise, unless you want more nuanced, niche aesthetic by choosing more unique leather, in which case aero and others are great.

Of course I'm going to shout-out Johnson Leather, they make jackets for local law enforcement and can make you pretty much anything you want for your budget if they don't have what you want, and they have good leather options too. If you're local they'll tailor make it for you.

Have a look at Goldtop jackets. Very traditional styling, but built for riding and with provision for armour.

Edit: I should say don't own one myself, but I've been to their bricks & mortar store and tried on many many options. I ride in a Merlin leather jacket, but it's not something you'd wear off the bike.

Another vote for Vanson. They got you covered. You can get two of their highest-end jackets for that kinda money!

Johnson Leathers is another option, though things can get pricey with 'em.
I personally wouldn't risk wearing a Langlitz on a bike at that kinda price range as even smallest spill will mess up the jacket. Plus they're obsolete as riding gear when compared to Vanson. It's a cosplay jacket.

Look into Alpinestars, Rev'It, Dainese, too.
