This is an extremely fine weave Montecristi Panama hat purchased from Brent Black, widely considered the world’s premier Panama hat dealer and a master hat blocker. This was the third Montecristi I purchased from Brent in a short period, and he worked with me on the price given my repeat business.
Here’s how the process worked: I would provide Brent with the model I wanted, my exact head size (22-3/4" long oval), desired brim width and crown height, and my budget. He would then search his inventory of hat bodies for one that matched my specifications within the price range.
The weave on this hat is so fine that I can't accurately count the weaves per inch, but I’ve included a photo with a measuring tape if you’d like to try. I gave Brent a $2,000 budget for this hat; with custom blocking and shipping, the final total came to $2,275.
Condition Notes:
The hat is extremely lightweight due to the fine straw.
The straw is supple, with no loose fibers.
It could benefit from a light cleaning to be in pristine condition.
I’ve stored it in the original hat box and periodically let it rehydrate in the bathroom to maintain the straw’s flexibility.
Why I’m Selling:
I’ve lost about 40 pounds since purchasing the hat, and my face has thinned considerably. I no longer prefer wide-brim styles, as I feel they emphasize the narrowness of my face.
