I didn't say $ was bad, I'm just stating the facts.
I don't think there is any disagreement there.
MK wants to make money, Fedora wants to make money, that's it.

Of course to be fair I don't see why hat people are being singled out. Shouldn't the same apply to anyone selling anything?

If that's the case, then Fedora would have been better served to list himself as a vendor in the merchants section than to have pulled up stakes and left. I will miss him and appreciated the work he did for me in the past, but it seems as though there was a way to strike a compromise on this issue and he chose to move on. [huh]

Point of information: For the last three and a half years, The Fedora Lounge has been paid for out of my pocket. Dollars come out of my wallet, not into it. Since the two banners have been added, it almost pays for the server. We are still operating at a loss....which is fine. I didn't start this joint to make money.

I just want to make it clear because some are insinuating otherwise. The agenda is not to make money, the agenda is to keep the advertising in check. I would hope members would appreciate the effort. It would easy to let it become a free-for-all.

BTW: The policy is for all companies, not just hats.

Exactly! A website like MySpace didn’t get to be as big as it is by limiting it’s services to paid sponsors. They allow Every Artist to advertise. The difference is you get what you pay for. More exposure is going to cost you. But the basic artist space is free.

I will shut the joint down before turning it into a prostitute for soft porn, online dating and get out of debt web sites, like MySpace does.

Not my M.O.

That explanation makes perfect sense to me, it's just this post did not have that much information.

Hat Vendors
If you have a business selling or servicing hats, please do not advertise your business, web site or products in your posts. Those of you who support the Fedora Lounge through banners or advertising in Classic Style magazine may include your web site address, but please keep all other promotion in the vendor forum.

Thank you for your cooperation.

And for the record I would pay a fee to be a FL member:) .

The only time I ever mention it, is when someone says I am on the take or is being irate.

Thanks for expressing your enjoyment of the place.

A variation of that idea was floated before. It didn't sail:

To his credit, MK has never asked us for donations ... but it would be nice if some of us voluntarily and anonymously contributed.

.

Thanks for the offer, Marc. It is not necessary. The site is close to supporting itself....and will be in the black very soon. Besides, I would have never published Classic Style if it had not been for this community. Soon that will more than take care of the expense.

Regardless, you have always been supportive in word and deed. Thank you.

You're welcome, MK. Understood and appreciated. Since that is the case, I don't see why anyone should have a problem with hatters' banners and paid advertising. It's an effective way for you to moderate the quality and quantity of advertising around here, and to help pay for the Lounge itself.

I'm sorry that is an opinion. You seem to be confusing the 1% the media focuses on. If you read this thread you will find many of the FL members use myspace. are you calling the members of your own community prostitutes and scammers?

No. If you reread my words, you will see that I am saying that the company,MySpace has low standards....if any. That is not a reflection of it's users anymore than my standards of the content of the advertising banners here necessarily reflect those of our membership.

This is exactly what I meant about conspiracies..
Vermiguge, you know full well MK is not calling members of his community prositutes and scammers. It is the intentionally provacative posts like yours that got the political talk shut down.
Let's keep the conversation to vintage gear and not mudslinging, o.k.?
Oh and please let us not start about the suppression of free speech. That old dog needs to be put down..

Vermifuge,

I have only been a member here for a handful of days and I didn't take MK's remarks in that vein at all. I think he was clearly speaking to the owners of MySpace and the way they intuitively look the other way while spammers and porn sites slip them money.

I'm not bashing here by any means - but I feel that last comment was quite an unfair stretch.

Best,
Robert

This is not a hat topic

I am sorry to see Steve go, but it is his choice. I assume my best bud Art will also remove his tag link, and I bet that he will remain.

Although the BOSS has posted in this thread, it has gotten way off topic and is not going along the theme of hats, and has gone elsewher.

I am offended by one of the above posters who always seems to stir the pot. I am advising you, knock it off in my HATS section. You seem to be a person who wants to cause discontent. Not acceptable.

This thread is closed.

Can I ask why not remove the web address and continue with business as usual?
If the point is to provide information and not get business, then why delete one's account?
Please read this as a serious inquiry because I do not understand the logic behind this course of action.

As a retailer , I received the PM as well . Im not sure how to respond as I enjoy posting on the lounge as well as meeting new customers . I think if it were worded a little less harsh , it would not have been taken as it was by some of the retailers.
