This is how ladies used to go shopping in Union Square in San Francisco. :eusa_clap Compare this to today's clipped purple haired, dungaree and tied dyed wearing, flip flopped, no make-up, sagging liberated women of today in San Francisco.

Meat and The Golden Era VS. The Modern PC Vegetarian Era

Is it any wonder why we have become a nation of weaklings?
All of this" Save the shrimps", "Meat is bad", PC mentality is turning us into a nation of wimps. Ripe for a take-over by evil insurgents of all kinds. (Not naming names or pointing fingers at any fifth columnists whatsoever, in order to be PC :eusa_doh: )

Thanks for those links... "The Gallery of Regrettable Food" had me laughing out loud, especially "BBQ Ages Men Before Your Eyes"...

My wife grew up on SPAM.:( Once in a while, when I want to eat something she doesn't like, such as corned beef, she'll fry up SPAM and potatoes, and bake a can of biscuits:( :(

She's getting better, though!

Better Homes and Gardens and Life always seemed to feature "rings of meat" (generally meat loaf) - i might add, along with rings of jell-o, rings of guacamole, rings of humus, rings (that's right ... rings!) of lettuce. Generally with a filling in the centre of the ring. I have no time ... can anyone furnish us with a picture of such ring-o-foodstuffs mania?

The 1950s, where rings of food took over the homes of many a fine family. We've never been the same since ...

spam is horrible! It has the worst funky taste, it shouldn't even be classified as a meat product! My grandma still cooks that way..I loved it whenever we went over to her house for any meal...she was a lady that could cook some grub..and there was A LOT of it.....although, you guys talking about heart attacks from eating this stuff, it is definetely not good for you...my grandpa's had so many heart attacks that they've used the last vein left....fried chicken in olive oil anyone? ;)

That SPAM one with the pineapple and BBQ sauce makes me want to barf. Who would ever eat such a foul combination?

Actually spam coated in beaten egg and pan fried is pretty good.

Did you know there is a fast food chain in the Phillipines that specialises in Spam. Common guys it's only chopped up tinned bacon!

Mysterygirl, don't do the fried chicken in olive oil it has a too low smoking point, produces lot's of nasty chemicals, much safer to do it in lard! Higher heat seals in the juices and doesn't stick to the food, tastes great too, much crisper.

In my undergraduate days, while a little tipsy, i fell asleep for a couple of minutes. And awoke to the most acrid, putrescent smoke filled apartment i've ever encountered. Olive oil aflame is an experience everyone should have. It takes to fire incredibly easily, and burns with a horrid black smoke.

I was coughing for days afterward. Never again will i leave olive oil unattended upon a stove.

Very healthy, though ... Tastes good too. A little olive oil and salt on the side of a plate (some people also add pepper). Dip bread and eat. Wonderful!

Spam is supposed to be "Shoulder Pork and hAM" = SPAM.

Pacific Islanders seem to love Spam, the Samoans and Hawiians all are Spam afficionadoes. There is a Spam roll done like a sushi roll and even BBQ'd Spam.

Mmmmmmm...steak!
