Oh, and why are the only people who overuse the word definitely are the ones who can't spell it?

(sheepishly raises her hand) for years that was me--it took me forever not to write "definately". I do believe I'm cured now though.

This might be a California-ism, "I'm just being me."
I pointed out to someone that they never use it when they are doing something good; "I'll pay for everyone, I'm just being me.". It's always used as an excuse: one does something inappropriate and says "I'm just being me." when they are given a bad look.

GeniusInTheLamp, are you a fan of "Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin"?

BegintheBeguine, I constantly mispell "definitely". Thanks for the tip.

That's how I roll,

Definite, followed by "ly". That's how I've remembered it. Of course, I tend to recall certain words phonetically.

I didn't get where I am today by not knowing my Britcoms.

Brilliant!

Phrases (not sure if I'd call these clichés) I'd like to see erased?

Anyways--bad grammar, irritates the living daylights out of me, especially when I read it in essays when peer editing.

"I know, right?"--a California-ism, I'm led to believe, as I was the only one out of thirteen people to use it while I was studying overseas this summer, and realized how gosh-darn annoying it is (still trying to overcome the habit!).

"Super"--but only in the sense of super-good, super-cool, super-easy. It's cool on its own...leave it that way.

Oh, that's colorful! I don't want to see that one go.
When I first read 'at the end of the day' (cringe) I took it literally and of course it didn't make any sense. Then I learned it was a stupid cliche and I hated it even more. 'When all is said and done" doesn't grate on me nearly as much.
I admit I have never heard 'With a twist!'. What does it mean?
