Leather Trucker Levi's / Lee / Type-whatever jackets!

@jonesy86 TBH, waiting for the Aero is what I would do. Levi's used to do really great leather jackets in the past but I haven't seen anything worthwhile since the 2k's. Even the 90's stuff was good, though. I've seen many of these jackets made all over the world. Didn't used to care for this style back then but I did like them. Turkey ones were excellent, really beautiful and heavy hide... Well made jackets. But anyway, yeah, in the past years they've been putting out that lightweight, flimsy stuff just like anyone else. $280 that can get you a seriously good jacket on eBay. I paid much less for my Vanson jacket and that's a lifetime piece. So yeah, I wouldn't bother with these new ones. Send it back, invest some more into Aero and get yourself what's gotta be the best version out there. I've seen what they'll look like and you've no worries they're gonna be anything less then perfection.
Would love to see Schott, tho...

@Boyo , please post more photos of yours when you get the chance. :D

Ancient Levi's model. Seems they had used snaps since forever. Also, unlined.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna send it back to Levi's. The biggest problem I have with buying jackets on ebay, or even TFL, or off the rack for that matter is that to get my sleeves long enough I have to size up to a pretty big jacket for my thin not too muscular body type. i do though like a looser and longer jacket than the biker second skin. As well as the generally much tighter and shorter jackets that are the trend these days. I really wanted to like this new Trucker, but I own some nice leather now. An Aero HBD, and a Himel Heron. The minute I touched the new Levi's Trucker I said to myself " what is this thin flimsy s**t.
I am still looking for a lighter jacket, and have been shopping goat, which I know lasts forever, even though you don't get the grain and patina. I wonder if maybe this buffalo might do as a light weight jacket for when it is not to cold where I live, which is most of the time. But it still seems low quality. I have gotten a several goat skin samples from a bunch of makers and they seem pretty cool to me. Yea, I should probably send it back.

I totally agree with Monitor on this one. Send it back...you won't regret it for a moment. I also tried on the same Levis Trucker in Buffalo (made in India) at the Levis retail store last Spring. They were offering them at a substantial discount, so I took one home. And a day later I returned it. It just didn't wear well, didn't hang well, didn't look good, and once that purchase buzz wore off, the substandard fit and thin leather really became apparent. Much better to save your money, and invest it in a trucker that is tailored to your body type, made with a quality cut of hide. And then wear it to death!

Now the earlier Levis Shorthorn truckers are in a different league...

BTW Johnson Leathers offers a trucker in both the button version, and snap version, and can customize it to your exact specs...and offer goat, or a very thick suede as well.

Hey, thanks a lot for the advice. When I first put it on I really wanted it to work. But I think you and Monitor are absolutely right. I just talked to the guy at JL and he can do one for $650 in horse, of $550 in cow or goat. I just gotta cross the bridge and check out the store.
Thanks!!
I'm packaging up the Levi's right away to return it.

I have a Johnson type 3 snap in buffalo. From years ago. Nice heavy hide. But the fit and details are even better. You can't go wrong there, especially if you go there.
Thanks, I didn't ever realize it is right across the bridge from me. I gotta get out more.

I want them to make a black dyed over blue, whats it called, like a teacore? So that the more it is broken in the more it fades to blue. Riveted buttons instead of snaps, type 3 with hand warmer pockets. I'll look at the midnight blue and start eating more beans, rice, and tortillas in order to afford another jacket. :)

No, blue over the top cream. Then when it fades, it'll look like real denim and really confuse people!

I'd love midnight blue (almost black) over natural Vicenza.

So how much do we have to bribe @cloudylemonade to make this happen? :D

I'd love to see some pics of your Buffalo Type 3. What is the thickness on the hide?

Thats just how I like them too. Did you buy this of the rack or have it done custom? If so how long did it take.

Looks great!

Custom. My kids live in the area and when I visit I stop in every so often. This was some years ago. I liked the buffalo hide they had and thought because it was both heavy and pliable it might be good for a type 3. They have some sample jackets there and a whole bunch of different leathers depending on what is around when you go in.

Johnson. I know some of you will find this an inch long for a Type 3, but I asked for it. When the jacket is this substantial I don't like it too short. I can still snap this and cover my belt. I have an Aero that is mid-horse and nice too, shorter. But I can't wear it closed, only open, which is fine. Dang...that's gorgeous! I'm really liking that Buffalo- Looks thick and comfortable...
Ah jeez...I've been trying to avoid JL for just this reason.
