Knox Boater Hat Mystery

I just acquired this hat and was reccomended that I come here for more info!

I would love a little insight into this Knox boater hat. I’ve used Google lens for all of the labels, along with the hat, and I am having a hard time pinpointing an exact era.

The hat is in pristine condition, the box has an older feel to me (and is quite beat up) and goggle brought up several 30s round boxes in that print.

I did find that Ovalized Sixteenths appeared on the first Knox hat in 1933. So this would be sometime after that.

I have tried to research when Knox boaters were in the $5 range, but to no end.

I purchased the hat as part of a lot of 40s/50s hats.

If we have any Knox hat experts feel free to chime in! IMG_0837.jpeg IMG_0835.jpeg IMG_0834.jpeg IMG_0830.jpeg IMG_0832.jpeg IMG_0831.jpeg IMG_0833.jpeg IMG_0836.jpeg

That one is going to be a toughie as it has non-traditional tagging since it's a straw and not a felt hat. Although the type of debossing on the sweatband points to an earlier era (at least pre-1950).

Others may have the knowledge to pinpoint more clues as to era, but for starters, you can check out The School of Hard Knox thread here on the Lounge. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/the-school-of-hard-knox.18386/

It's a very nice boater.

Good luck!

I have some info on Yeddo (Röhrlihüte) on my website. There are links including the Schweizer Strohmuseum.

Do you think it was made out of bamboo or is that just a name?. I've played around with bamboo but don't know a person would get material like that.
