Now that looks like the 'original' Indy hat. Natural aging is always the best way to go.

Mr. Sable, that hat of yours is fantastic. Don't do the reblock - just leave it as it is!!! It's perfect!

RBH --

Is that your AB that you've given the young Indy look? Do you mind sharing the specs on that lid in terms of crown height and brim width?

Thanks,
JtL

Thanks JtL, no that is my Akubra Federation that I recieved recently. As I had an AB I thought the YIJ style would look good.THe brim is dimensional and the front of the crown is 4 1\2 and the back is 5 1\2. I have a very slight center dent that goes with the YIJ style along with the slight side dents.

Here is my Adventurebilt, the front crown is around 5 1\2 and the back around 4. Also a dimensional brim.

Rover The standard AB is soft as well. The DeLuxe is more.... DeLuxe, not softer more lush, tacktile, robust, dense etc. Marc certainly has a way with hats. Next time we meet I will wear one to show you.

Hi all! Here's me with my cheapo Dorfman Pacific Indy hat, out hiking in Red Rock Canyon outside Las Vegas:

Someday, hopefully in the next year, I plan to get myself a much nicer Indy hat. I want something great for when I go backpacking through Hawaii next year :)

VegasMike- not trying to advertise or anything, but I really feel obligated to recommend the Akubra Federation for you.
You'd like it.

Trust me.

RBH - yup, it's the crushable one, which actually works out pretty nice at work sometimes when I have to shove it in my bag and put on a hard hat.

Jerekson - I've been looking at those Federations, as I REALLY want a nice Indy hat, but I'm also looking and some lower crown outback styles which might be more conducive to my hiking/backpacking. Eventually I'll get both, just which one first! :p

Vegas ...

(Extreme Indy aficionados please turn away now)

You can put a C-crown or teardrop on a Fed. and it is actually a little lower than you might think. Maybe it's still not what you're looking for, but I was hesitant at first, too, and my Fed. Deluxe has turned out to be my favorite hat ever in just a few short weeks

Jerekson, what about Camptown?

The Camptown (as well as all the others, AB etc.) are fantastic.

I was simply recommending the Akubra for a hiking man.

surprisingly enough, the DP is actually quite the comfortable hat. I thought the bash was starting to press out on my melon while wearing, but I then I realized I needed a haircut :p With less hair it fits great now :) I'll definately keep it around as a nice beater hat, even if I get an Akubra

The most comfortable hat I have is an old wool felt that doesn't even have a brand name to it. Great hat to throw in my bag when I want a second hat, but I wouldn't want to wear it in the rain!
