Closest I've got is my Hoosier and my G-1, I just picked up a Vintage S&W M&P but don't have a picture wearing it.

My Adventurebilt is on order so it'll be a few months. I've been pondering bashing a Knox I have in an Indy bash. Maybe I'll mess around with it and try posting a picture later.

Great looking hat, you even look a bit like him too. :fedora:

No Akubra for me...yet. So I have these:
DSCF1090-1.jpg

A cheap no-name wool I Indy-ized.

vintagePortis.jpg

Not inspired by Indy but still looks similar. A vintage Portis with original Indy-esque shape to it.

Edit: Ok, I guess I'm a Jones nutter. :p

This is absolutely not an Indy-influenced picture, but the fedora in this high school graduation picture was a Indiana Jones marketed wool fedora; and the first I ever owned. I got it off ebay from some seller for probably twenty dollars four or five years ago. I actually don't have it anymore, it turned out to be a little bit for me, and I changed to a grey biltmore not too long after I got it.

I've been considering getting one of those myself.

My closest Indy is the one in my avatar. It's a Stetson Temple in mink brown. It's also my first fur felt fedora. I started out with a woll felt "offical" Indy hat almost 10 years ago and finally upgraded about 7 years ago.

RBH - Good thread. I'm the same as you; it's just the hat that interests me, really.

It looks a lot more Indy from the front, but I don't think it looks too bad from the side either. Fits a treat now, too.

I thought the same about mine when I first wore it, but I'm happy now. The really important thing it to look at yourself in a mirror from a distance - the other side of the room if possible. The one thing I've learned in my month on COW/FL is that Indy hats are very susceptable to looking weird due to perspective. You have a hat with a tall crown, and a bigger brim, so if you look at yourself in a mirror a foot away, it really distorts it - the crown towers away from your eyes, and the brim arcs very close to the mirror, and seems bigger. The same is happening in your picture, because its taken at arms length.

Seriously, my Fed Dlx looks just like yours when I look close-up, but if I step right back, and view it as another person would see it (without weird perspective nonsense), I am perfectly happy with the proportions of mine.

Try doing the same thing, and you might be more reassured.

BTW - great hats, ain't they?

ccb - were you expecting that picture to be taken? You're looking a little surprised. Sorry - I like knowing about what happened before and after a picture was taken.

Wow I'm being a real spamtard in this thread, eh?

I was never quite able to accept the brim width on either of my indy hats, although I love the tall crown. As a result, my adventurebilt was cut down considerably. By the time a federation rolled around, I was a bit more comfortable wearing hats and managed to trim off a mere quarter inch.

Anyway, here they are. My adventurebilt, the picture taken while adjusting the shape after a healthy rainstorm.

My federation, which I decided looked more interesting with a diamond bash. This hat has always struck me as quite blue for being gray.

Thanks for the perspective, and I AGREE, the Akubra Fed's are GREAT.....Can't be beat for a modern hat at a reasonable price!!!

I think one of the things mine needs is a little more upturn to the brim on the sides...Looks a little too flat to me.

Great looking Indy hats, Guys. You inspired me to take a few shots of my latest favorite.

P1040038.jpg

It's a custom made (for OWC) by Monte Cristi Custom Hat Works of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

P1040039.jpg

P1040040.jpg

It came from a local thrift shop for $15. I cut the brim down to 2 5/8, and reduced the size from 7 1/4 to 7 1/8. The band was pirated from a cowboy hat. I have less than $30 plus my time invested in it. Here's a detail of the finished product.

P1040042.jpg

I found their web site. It looks like they list this hat for $600. My best find, to date!

That is quite the find, and it's great work you've done on it:eusa_clap . That look wins my vote for most inspired by and least beholden to Indiana Jones.
