ID this coat?

I'm fairly certain I've seen something like this before, but can't place it. Seems despatch-rider like, but I'm probably wrong.

Nationality? Name?

Thje cut and collar make me think it's a 'Coat, Tropal' which was a cold weather kapok lined coat that also found favour with the LRDG in the North African deserts during WW2.

However, these were a very bulky jacket and this doesn't look that bulky. They were also khaki.

This could be one that had the lining removed and was dyed.

Some French tanker coats of the period also had collars like that but they would have been much shorter and I think were leather.

Sorry, haven't added much but perhaps there's a few clues in what I've written that will jog someone else's noodle :eusa_doh:

Yep, the photobucket ones are definately a Coat, Tropal.

The other one could be a French version looking at the type of liner. Probably post WW2.

I'd stick with the one you have received. Nice coat !!

The snaps are marked Newey Pat. 201430-22. I believe this means its either British or commonwealth. All the buttonholes are reinforced with leather. There are legstraps at the bottom of the coat, and all the original buttons are imitation tortoiseshell.

Dave's right. The answer is on the label, which is correct in this case (they are notorious for appearing incorrectly on the sheepskin version).

It's the standard British Army Coat, Tropal. On issue from the start of WW2 and often appearing in photographs from the Norwegian Expeditionary Force to the Western Desert.
