With Art’s retirement, I’m looking at other options for custom hats. It’s been a year or two since I received my first Hufvud and listening to people whose opinions I respect I think I’ll give him another go. The lure of 100% beaver from FEPSA is also a big factor.
And standard shipping is included.

keep us posted on the comparison of Winchester and your Hufvud fespa!Although I am yet to receive my first Winchester beaver to compare with, I think that from modern offerings, Fepsa in pure beaver ticks all the boxes. Marketing aside (felt body prices?) I can't see why beaver blends with rabbit/hare furs are better or more "reshapable" than 100% beaver ones, unless we are talking about longer nap/hair finishes where hare may has some clear advantages. Just my thoughts
Anyways this discussion inspired me to wear mine today

I very much like the rust hues of this dark brown
Have a great New Year's Eve everyone,

Were you not pleased with the hat from 2 years ago?
I am definitely getting a FESPA felt for my next custom. I know there is HUFVUD and HORNSKOV, but Hornskov has fewer options for colors. Hornskov also does finish the hats with fire, I don't know if Hufvud does? Not every hatter does this finishing touch
Yes, I think many (most) hatters consider the 'singeing' a bit gimmicky and not really needed.I go back and forth on this hat. It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad. I certainly prefer my Winchester beaver hats. I’m curios to give a FEPSA beaver and a 50/50 beaver blend a try. I have the pure beaver samples from Hornskov and it’s interesting, but not a game changer over Winchester.
Firing a hat is not needed with most hats and some hatters skip it as it’s just not always useful.
the Winchester I have from GAnnon is Western weight and it's either the felt or Gannon, but as much as I like my hat, it's not my favorite. It's my favorite shape, and the details but the hand and the tightness of the felt, it's lacking for me. I don't know if it's because it's Western Weight or he doesn't have a way to give it a good hand, I didn't expect it to be like my vintage but after the rave reviews I get I had higher expectations.I go back and forth on this hat. Have you posted pictures of these two? We'd love to see them.I have two rabbit/Hare hats from Hufvud and they are my favorites. The American custom hats are too stiff for my taste. My Hufvuds are soft and malleable. I enjoy changing the shape by hand to conform to my mood. They are so malleable I can put them in the airplane overhead compartment and instantly reshape them by hand if they get crushed. They are the most practical for travel. They handle rain well. My other custom hats I tend to baby. I'm careful not to crush them or get them wet. The Hufvud is a hat that's made to be beaten up and worn and improves with age. The sweatband and liner are luxurious. I especially like the beige gray felt with black wide ribbon. If i could use one word to describe this hat it would be "fun".
That black edge binding on gray just pops !! Very cool Mikael.
