You guys make it a lot more difficult to choose now :-D
My record is 13 months for a Black sheep and the same for a Leon Drexler
My wife and I waited 23 and 24 months for BSHW hats.I'm sure there's someone around here who can claim a multi-year wait for an Adventurebilt [can of worms opened and trying to get the lid back on in a hurry].
Question: what is a BSHW hat? Black Sheep Hat Works? My wife and I waited 23 and 24 months for BSHW hats.
Yes.Question: what is a BSHW hat? Black Sheep Hat Works?
Ah.... Thank you!Yes.
Although I very much appreciate my vintage hats I still find that custom made ones have a place in my collection. Especially since they can combine two of my favourite aspects ; US proportions and EU felts. Not to mention my attitude to support young hatters
So after a respectful time with back and forth the right hat is finally here; FEPSA pure beaver in brown rust, taupe ribbon, #52 block, 14.6cm open crown, dimensional cut bounded brim 6.5cm front/back 6cm sides.
This one feels just about right. Fit is to the point and the felt is just as thin, dence and soft as you expect from a fepsa beaver. By far my favourite modern felt!
I wanted this one tall and I am glad Mikael could block it as such. It was send as a Ragnar creased but I changed it to a deeper teardrop to my liking. Block is straight and most creases give it a reverse taper, bold hat for sure! To my specifications it has an extra deep flange
I very much like the color combo. Mikael calls the ribbon taupe, to me it seems more like a grey-blue with some green undertones in certain light. The felt color also differs from dark red to brown depending on the light.

Pouncing feels even whatsoever. Brim binding is made by hand and definitely interesting. I believe the top side is sewed first and then flipped over to the down side where it's finished with blind stiching! The point where the two edges meet together however is where the straight lines and overall harmony of the hat is somehow disrupted. It seems to me that they overlap instead of just smoothly meet to each other. Small detail for sure and wouldn't have mentioned at all if a respectful extra was not charged for brim bindings.

Down side
Flipping over does not disappoint too. Liner looks great and sewed in place. Not sure if it's rayon or something else though. Sweatband is some of the best I 've ever seen, period. Everything is in line.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and as mentioned by others before, Mikael is very easy to work with. On the plus he understands the importance of customer support and always ready for a rematch if needed
And...have I told you that it's tall ?
Thanks Mikael!
Best,
Panos

Thanks Brent !Absolutely fabulous, Panos! I’ve been wanting to try a custom from FEPSA beaver for a long time and I’m running out of excuses.
By the way, I really like the crown height!

Outstanding, Mikael. I especially like the brown one on the headform. What is the brim width on that one?

Thanks for the excellent review, Panos. Beautiful work by Mikael. Quite pronounced shape and proportions to this hat and Mikael shows taking his inspiration from the pre-war hats. The colours are wonderful I think.Although I very much appreciate my vintage hats I still find that custom made ones have a place in my collection. Thank you Stefan, glad you like it! Mikael deserves all the credits for his creationsThanks for the excellent review, Panos. Beautiful work by Mikael. Quite pronounced shape and proportions to this hat and Mikael shows taking his inspiration from the pre-war hats. The colours are wonderful I think.
Thanks Scott!
That one has the same dimensions as yours. The client who ordered it saw your hat and wanted a similar one. You got great taste sir!
Besides, its a size 58 and therefore fits the headform.
