Sorry if this has been talked about before, but I have a question:

After wearing my Borsalino straw for some time now - especially in Italy on some very hot days, a lot of sweat/salt stays behind on the outside hatband.
And at the sweatband too.
How do I clean it, without destrying the shape of the hat completely?

I have taken a wet wash cloth and dabbed at the ribbon till wet and lightly rubbed and re-wet till the stain was gone.
Take note that some times you will have to go around the whole ribbon to make it all match after it dries.
If the sweat is cloth ... I have never tried anything with it. I have had several coth sweats in straws but never worked on them.

Can someone tell me the full name of the company that makes the scout hat cleaning products? I live in Silicon valley, and I can't find the stuff.

I use plain old wet wipes for my straw hats. At the end of the day, give the outside and inside a good cleaning with three or four of the things where your sweat has wet and dried. The wipe does not get the hat wet enough to matter and the surfactant in the wipe picks up the salt.

You can also use it on dry salt deposits. That's for the hat and the sweat band. As for the ribbon -- well your mileage may vary depending on the colorfastness of the ribbon. Happily, $5 gets you a new one when it gets too stained.

What sort of wipes? Like Clorox disinfecting wipes?

Not sure who makes it, but any Western wear or tack shop should carry it - basically any place that sells cowboy hats. These places are good sources for brushes and hat sponges too btw.

You can order it online but the shipping makes it pretty expensive.
