Diamondback: Living dangerously isn't equal to living well, giving, loving, and all that rot. I'm sure you have lived fully, haven't you?

Edward: Sadly, thigh-high back-seam stockings with garters/girdles are seen as fetish wear by many. It's also seen as a youth thing these days.

When did I start saying "these days"? Eh? Speak up, deary.

I wouldn't care about just looks.

Its more downtown but even just around the neighborhood its guys in trucks and stuff who think pedestrians really want to hear their take.]

Also, james, they're probably around, but you may not be their market. lol

Thank God for small favors. lol lol lol lol
Actually, in my high school days, it happened a few times to me as well---and I was in a car at the time! :eusa_doh:

Well, between the almost-decade wiped out by amnesia, and what came out of the nervous breakdown, out of 27 years of life only about 5 have actually been "lived", and even those rather poorly at best aside from the first two. How's "living fully" defined, anyway?

But, at least I have learned to laugh at my situation...:D As I've been known to observe, "You don't get a vote on the hand you're dealt, but you always have a choice on how you're going to play it and the attitude you do so with." And, it has given me a definite "outside the box" outlook on life, with some insights most don't get the chance to have... Tradeoffs, I guess. [huh]

WARNING by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I'll be right there with you, Sallypants. But I'm not quite ready for the ear trumpet and walking cane. Even if I am going to be a grandma in a couple of months. lol
You are lovely and perfect being yourself, and I treasure you. :D

Aw shucks, sweetie. You don't look like anyone's Mother, let alone Grandmother.

I saw a glass-headed sword-cane I kind of want. I do not know what I could possibly coordinate it with, but its still nifty.

Now a sword PARASOL, that's a fashion basic! lol

Who said anything about "swords"? Three feet of good solid American hardwood to the skull oughtta be enough to persuade just about anyone to go bother someone more "receptive"... or earn them a night's stay in the white-wall hotel with the red markings!lol

Besides, concealed swords are generally not kosher to carry in most places...

No apologies necessary. :)

Speaking of too old or not... I think as long as a person wears their clothes with comfort and grace we are never too old to look good.

I was kind of thinking about the stereotypical old granny when I posted that...I do think canes are cool, though, so no offense meant. I was just being silly! I have seen many people carry off both lethal and non-lethal canes with great style success. It's hard to pull off, but I say go for it!

I've actually been cultivating a staged limp so I can pack a cane, straight kind not crooked, without having to deal with questions from the (personally or professionally) nosy.

An old Lebanese-American cop/author who's influenced me a great deal once wrote an article on safe travel where he advocated canes as ideal for in-airport self-defense:
"Mr. Atta, I'll see your box-cutter and raise you three feet of American hardwood."--Massad Ayoob

This gal still wears her vintage dress from the 1950s at age 75. Her adoring husband sent this photo in to Reminisce magazine because he is proud it still fits her. That's my girl!

That's a great example. It doesn't make her look old and yet it doesn't make her look like she is try to look too young for her age.
The dress is actually great in its style as well. :eusa_clap Just goes to show that true fashion never goes out of style.

You will. We aren't the frumpy types. I just can't see you wearing a circus tent and orthopedic shoes.
