Well done. The S2S won’t work for me, or else I would have bought that puppy last year. Beautiful. I look forward to your thoughts on it. The hide reminds me of one of my Hercs. Really good looking in person and so easy to wear. So similar that I wonder if Blatt not only made jackets for HD, but also for Sears.

Oh yeah! Even after one coat of obernaufs she’s showing signs!!
Once it gets the dark brown Urad. It’ll look brand new. Liner and pocket bags are pristine. Which is rather shocking.

I dunno man. Can’t argue with results. URAD has yet to disappoint me! I will say, it’s probably not for every jacket though.

This jacket has many curious admires. The wool lining just says late 40s, a real sweat spot. Condition looks excellent. Look forward to your report.

I have seen very few Blatt jackets through the years, I began to think they were only a label. This may be the only MC style with their name? I'm loosing track, but I have never seen many Blatt jackets. Not sure what to make out of that. Would they have the capacity to make for HD or Sears? HD products were very well marketed and well sold. I question some of the quality. Different suppliers is my answer. The few Blatt jackets I have seen have been rather work man like, sorta like All Weather in California. They appeared very sturdy, heavy, quality leathers. Just so few to think they were a huge concern.

This Blatt, in hand, will yield more information. I note the rivets on the belt loops are of interest to me. I've seen this on early Hercules, but need a better look to compare.

Another Puzzle to work on.

I've forgotten; why do we believe that Blatt was a Maker and not a label?

I can’t recall either. Though the label itself makes me think they are a maker. And there are design cues that you see in jackets by the Chicago makers that you also see in the cycle champs. Grais is the other that pops into mind. I can’t find the d pocket Blatt picture. It’s somewhere.

The Cycle Champs were not around long. I don’t think too many were made, nothing like the later HD jackets. I know the jacket. I probably have the pic saved too. Just loose track. I will have to dig into my achieves for Blatt jackets. I will scratch my head on their maker status. Even a small shop could have produced a one year jacket, like the Champ in that unique style. I am more an more impressed with the amount of post-war HD labeled MC jackets. They had to have a few suppliers. Who made the 50s Penney's/Wards jackets?

Buzz Rickson's N-3B… might be the endgame winter coat. And since it's the black-on-black William Gibson version, it will blend right in in public, attracting no eyes, maybe some assumptions from snobby fashionistas that it's a cheap Canada Goose knockoff for poor people.

i think of Urad as a topcoat. I’ve used it on my five star dye jobs as such. It goes on sticky but dries really quickly. It’s a fantastic sealer. I think it’s a must for hides that have lost topcoat or have cracked. It’s also a good polish. For stuff that has lost its shine you can skim coat and buff it. Almost like waxing a car

I concur with Ton here. I used Urad on 70 -80-year-old mid-weight hides that have gotten stiff and with wear, the jackets have softened. 1960 cream top-coated Buco J-100 in good condition just stiff and a 1930 -1940 Block Blit half belt that had some flaking of the topcoat and required reinforcing in areas thank you Great Leathers.

The true vintage G.I. N-3B's are insanely warm (the civilian versions don't even compare). In my Midwestern USA youth there seemed to be one stashed in every car trunk in case of a winter breakdown. Usually in the unique sage color the US Air Force seemed to favor during the Cold War. Officer parkas had a coyote fur ruff instead of synthetic and were much sought-after.

I appreciate that but I'm a bit north of those Midwest states and today, for instance, with the temps at -25C and the wind chill into the -40s I'd still go with down filled.
