I haven't been to such a trip, but I would take my current beater which is actually a Lost World. It is certainly not my cheapest jacket, but the most "sturdy" which is what I was alluding into an earlier post. At least I am kind of doing it right... I think
But another completely stupid thought that comes to my head, is folding a nice leather jacket in the overhead compartment of your seat in the plane. I shouldn't worry about any of my jacket getting squashed there with all the bags, but it still stops me, so I tend to use the "sturdy" one for these occasions. Still have work to do, I guess.
It is fine to put something like a high end Japanese jacket, a goodwear or Himel in the overhead compartment isn't it?
The worst beating I can think of would be the jacket being squashed in a confined space really
I used to worry about traveling with a fancy leather, now i look forward to it. Nothing breaks in a jacket like traveling!
Between shoving it in a ball in overhead compartments, carrying bags around, and the fact that it usually stays on my back most of the day when abroad, every trip has done nothing but make my jackets look better!
Just go for it.
This is the worst your jacket is ever going to look:
And more you baby it, longer you'll have to wait for it to become this nice:
I've got this one coming from Canada.
View attachment 67399 Right now it's stuck between the moon and New York City. Literally hasn't moved from the NYC PO since the 7th. Weather probably a factor there?
If this weather keeps up it probably won't see any wear until next year. Temps are heading up into the 60's at the end of the week. It's totally bizarre and frankly disappointing. This is Chicago, the weather is supposed to be miserable for a good 6 more weeks, then it should be mildly shitty until June. Then. Just hot.
Going to try and cut back this year (need to keep strong). Trying to get my Vespa back on the road in the spring....this will take a few $$$$
Looking at two very different Moto jackets in 2017, one for posing & one for riding.
Ones in the post (the Brooks), the Alpine-stars (not an FL type of thing) planned for within the next two months.

That is my excuse for a Lewis leather
I am sooooooo guilty of this, but ardently trying to break the habit. I would "save" my premium jackets for "special" occasions, and wear my beaters for the mundane outings. Given that most outings are relatively mundane, my premium jackets were gathering dust. Thus, this winter, I undertook a campaign to wear all my premium leathers as often as possible, regardless of the nature of the outing. I am trying to overcome and defeat the (erroneous) notion that premium leather requires a premium occasion. My wife noticed and even commented that I am wearing my leather jackets more often.
I struggle with this issue. I want to take my premium leathers, but travelling presents several issues. Leather jackets are hard to pack (they take up a tremendous amount of space). I can take one as a carry on, but that presents other issues. Ultimately, it depends on where I am going. For example, I don't bring premium leather on safari in Africa.
Real McCoy's double diamond railroad coat. A repro of the original that a fellow lounger posted a few weeks back. It's actually out for delivery as we speak!Gorgeous looking coat. What is it?
Which model are you looking at? I'd adore to have a Lightning, myself. I've considered the much cheaper Leather Monkeys imitation, but it doesn't 'feel' right, somehow.
Beautiful coat!Noticed a couple of vintage items on Etsy recently that are similar.I must stop searching for horsehide!Real McCoy's double diamond railroad coat. A repro of the original that a fellow lounger posted a few weeks back. It's actually out for delivery as we speak!
when I take a leather with me on a trip, I usually only take one, and I wear it on the plane. I would wear them more often, but I need to start travelling when it's cool enough for that more often now....
I've had that one fav'd for about 3 years!Beautiful coat!Noticed a couple of vintage items on Etsy recently that are similar.I must stop searching for horsehide!
