How about that vintage western look

This is how I would imagine a city guy from Texas / western states in the 1950's would dress. Could be wrong, but I doubt they all ran around wearing H Bar C and Rockmount shirts... to me that's less western and more cowboy...

How's this for cool? Belonged to Roy Rogers. Sold for $3000.

I'm thinking about getting a toned down (no conchos or fringe- not suede) version of it made up. Same colors and cut more or less. None of the off the rack western makers seem to have been able to make a bib shirt right in 50 years or so- so this should be pretty cool and unusual.

Crossposted this in outerwear, but since it's not an A-2 or an Aero, I doubt anyone will see it.

From the label and looking at some other sites, it appears to be from around 1950.

Probably not most peoples thing. Western shirt styling, snap front, white leather body, hair on cow trimwork, snap front and cuffs. Interesting that it has a loop collar closure. Looks like for once the sleeves on it will be long enough.

There's a similar vest by the same company on the Japanese ficus blog.

Hi, my daughter's first grade teacher when through a phase (I hope it was a phase) when everything had Holstein print on it. She would have probably worn black and white cow fur.

A set of these all belonged to a band back in the '50s. Either custom or home-made. Interesting the extensions at the bottoms of the shirts. Big sizes on 'em too.

A pretty sedate gab western shirt.

While not vintage, this sweater caught my eye. It's a Pendleton, 100% cotton, and I bought it on clearance (!). I replaced the buttons with vintage black rhinestone ones. Perfect for my slouchy days!

Great shirts, i love the whole western look, been fascinated by it since i was a kid. Actually i have a question, i have recently acquired some vintage acme cowboy boots, 50's, for the princely sum of twenty pounds, which i thought was a bargain and which i am dying to wear but they are rock solid although in vgc nonetheless, can anyone recommmend a product for restoring them to their former glory. I thought maybe saddle soap, but would welcome any suggestions.
Hi Sofia,
The product you want is made by a company called Bickmore the actual product you need is called Bick 4 it will not darken even on light colored leathers.
Do not use saddle soap as it remove any oils that are in the leather and will cause the leather to crack.
It sells here in the US for under $10, Great product it is for exotic leathers as well I use it myself on all my Lucchese Classics boots.
Hopes this helps.

Bick 4 is good stuff for vintage leather, as is RM Williams Saddle Dressing. A product I have used before with great results on extremely valuable or very old leather is called Blackrock Leather N Rich. Cheesy name, but some folks I know from a well-respected Western auction house use it exclusively on vintage leather.

And in front of that gorgeous '48 Chrysler Traveler (I think) at the lower right is Roy's replacement in the Sons of the Pioneers, Pat Brady. Brady was Roy's "comical sidekick" in the TV show. The show featured Roy Rogers, "King of the Cowboys", and his horse Trigger, along with Dale Evans "Queen of the West", and her horse Buttermilk. Pat Brady drove a banged up Jeep named Nellybelle. These are the things you remember from childhood TV watching, even after almost 60 years.

Wasn't there a dog named Bullit?

And, I might add, there's always Sheplers...

I've posted the sweater before on this thread, but just bought the "big hanky" skirt (as my daughter calls it). Our temps finally creeped up past 45 today, and it almost feels like spring again!

PS. I didn't even have to light the stove! :)
