Hi everyone, I'm about to order my first Aero jacket but I am undecided on what type of leather to ask for the construction of my Highwayman. I was thinking of the thin or classic steerhide chromexcel and the black badalassi. What leather would you recommend for this model of jacket? Thank you for your help

My HWM is in seal jerky horsehide. I've never seen other HWMs in this skin and I love it because it's much more supple than the CXL right out of the box and this skin also has a very nice grain that develops more and more over time.

Hi I only have one Aero j106 in
chestnut badalassi. I love how it looks (little shiny), feels (thick, 1.3) and especially smell, like old school genuine leather. However there is one negative which is the squeak but either Im used to it or it has actually quieted down. The way I wear mine and my work etc doesnt bother me at all. But I think thats something you should know about Aero's bada.

Ciao, ho solo un Aero j106 in
badalassi castagna.

Awesome then, I think badalassi can work. Color is important too!

It’s realy about the look you want to achieve.

Heavy CXL FQHH is pretty much the quintessential Aero hide. It has a deep shine, has a heft like hardly any other leather and looks very worthy. On the downside it’s stiff, absolutely non-breathable and patinas very quickly.
For me, Badalassi is the polar opposite in Aeros lineup. Very shiny, almost lacquered, looks very luxurious where CXL looks butch. I haven’t yet seen a lot of patina on a Badalassi jacket.

Both work well, and it’s not possible, IMO, to pick “the better” hide.

For versatility, Vicenza may be a real alternative. A bit thinner than the other too, but still far from thin or light. Personally, I never had much luck with the grain, but there are many fans of the hide in these parts, and I am sure for good reason.

Personally: the HWM is such a classic design. For my first one, CXL FQHH would be my choice.

Premier HWM in cordovan CXL horse. Still a perfect combo for me.

I would also like to add CX Steerhide. I personally like it better than CXFQHH. It's softer and more comfortable to wear, even though it's thick.

Hey mrproper, that is a nice jacket! I don't mean to hijack the thread but a couple of quick questions for you, if you don't mind,
1) what color is this jacket?
2) if I recall, you own a j100. Did you have to size up?

I am very seriously considering an Aero BR J100, cordovan in CXL HH and trying to research sizing.

Thanks!

1) The leather is CXSH, the colour is Cordovan
2) My J100 is made of chestnut Badalassi and was originally intended to be a boardracer. But Aero said the pattern didn't suit me and so I got a custom version based on the PHWM pattern (which was probably the absolute exception, because I have already bought many jackets from Aero and they know my measurements and stature well).
It is therefore the same size as my two PHWMs and the Ridley, size 44.

I’m no Mr Proper, but in my extensive Aero BR experience( I think I’ve owned 6 at this point) size up one from your normal if you plan to do ANY layering. I like my BR to be my normal size 40, but there is no hope for more than a thin thermal and a t shirt underneath. Hoodies are a no go. Great fit with a t shirt in my standard jacket size, and that holds true for me with either Vicenza or Badalassi. I’ve never attempted a CXL BR.
