Not a lot of information on the interwebs. Someone on Aussie Gumtree has a similar one for sale which they have referred to as a “San Juan” which looks very similar in style…..but can’t find anything else on it.

This is a common occurrence. Many vintage hats don’t have a model name on the sweatband or the liner. Sometimes we can speculate on which model our hat is, but often it’s impossible to say with any certainty. Luckily, not knowing the model doesn’t keep us from enjoying them.

Hello everyone, recently I became the owner of a Stetson made under licence in Australia. I’m unsure of the style, although I have reasons to believe it’s a whippet. There is only the brand and logo on the sweat band, no mention of type of hat. I am struggling to date this hat or even confirm if it should be a whippet. Part of me is wondering if it’s not as “legit vintage” as I first thought. Any help, much appreciated.
Reminds me a little of the Stetson flagship. Great looking hat. Enjoy wearing it.

Hello historical hat experts! Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this vintage hat I acquired. Some sort of stratoliner clone but no brand or info in the sweatband. What I do know is that the felt is amazingly light, moldable, and soft and it so happens that I really like it. Cheers!

Any tags behind the sweatband? You could try doing a trademark search on Repell-X, too.

That hat was originally sold just down the street from my house.

HI all, last thing from me on my own hat. Having done some digging, I'm fairly certain it's a stratoliner which has been modded by a previous owner to include a more standard Grosgrain bow. All the dimensions of the brim and crown fit with those of a stratoliner, including the brim binding. I'm just going to call its a stratoliner moving forward until I'm corrected. Thank you all once again for your input and Happy New year to you all.

Hi all,

I own a Stetson Sierra silverbelly 3x. I bought it at a garage sale and its barely worn and in the original box. I did some quick research and it seem to be from the 50s. Its very similar to the open road in its shape but i cant find any information about the model "Sierra".

I own a couple of stetsons and this one doesn't really fit me so I'm thinking of selling it. I would be very happy if i could get som more help about the history of the hat. the model, age and possible value.

All the best from Sweden.

Petter

It has the ribbon style of a western hat, not Open Road. I think Jared's guess of 1960-ish is a good one. The ticket affixed to the box shows a two digit postal code. Five digit postal codes first came into use in the USA in 1963. I think if you advertise as c. 1960 you will be marketing fairly. Value is hard to say.

The keyhole size tag with the mixed number (earlier tags just had the fraction), the embroidered Last Drop liner with the plastic tip protector, and the rectangular 3X Beaver sweatband marking make me think 1960s too. At least it was actually made by Stetson before they went out of business.

You never know on value. It’s not from the best time period, but it’s not the worst either. It’s not one of the more valuable larger sizes, but neither is it tiny. It’s also unusual so there are a lot of unknowns and few if any recent comparisons for pricing.

Hi, I was given this hat a while ago by a well travelled (and well off) friend. I'm in the UK and haven't a clue what particular hat it is.
sadly it's too small for me as I'm a size 59/60 or so.
(I'd like to sell it on eBay but have no idea if it's value or what it is called!!).
it's great quality. Gutted it's too small really as it's finer than my Linney Fedora I have.

Many thanks for your help! (First post too).

I found this vintage fedora recently and am wondering if it is worth reblocking? What I can tell about it:
It is approximately size 7.5, my size. Soft chocolate color. Maximal height of crown is 4.25 inches. Brim 2.25 inches Label reads: CUSTOM MADE/BARON / CALIFORNIA HATS.

Does anyone recognize the label? Is it beaver felt? From the 1950’s? I didn’t pay a lot for it; if it’s worth restoring I certainly would as it has a good look. I have been looking for narrower brims, and a less formal hat I can wear driving or indoors. Please note photos taken indoors; first 3 photos more accurate color wide.
