HELP!!!! Need help with right suit to buy for a summer wedding!!!

hey,

i have to buy a suit for my friends wedding coming on on July 8th. the ceremony is going to be outside, in Texas.

I know its going to be god awful hotness, i was considering a three piece grey suit, but im unsure now, i want to look vintage and the window of oppurtunity is closing

Depends how formal or in formal you want to go. I have a black linen suit which I find ideal for hot-weather occasions that require a dark lounge suit. It's been an absolute Godsend for July graduations, especially under stage lights.

I was going to make the same suggestion- a nice linen suit. If it's going to be that hot you don't want to be soaked in sweat! That's never a good look nor much fun

Seersucker is an excellent choice. It would very much depend upon how formal the bride and groom expect their guests to dress. Showing up in a seersucker suit complete with white bucks and straw boater could be percieved as "costume" rather than dress. I have seen it done well though. My cousin from TN showed up to my sister's July wedding in a seersucker complete with bow tie. He pulled it off because the seersucker just seemed "right" on the guy. A lightweight wool suit in a charcoal grey would probably be best. Every man should have one. If you wanted to be more vintage there are some options with cut and particularly lapel styles that could work for you.

I would consider asking if you are actually expected to wear a suit to the wedding, especially if you're not in it. IFFFFFF, the wedding is indoors, at night, the linen sport coat sounds good. The price is right on the seersucker too.

I have a three piece seersucker that I have worn in the south in the summer and find it very comfortable. I agree that, that or linen would be your best bet.

Linen or tropical wool maybe. Linen creases like hell though but damn it's comfy when hot. Topical wool might be quite expensive (super 150s) but it's ultra light and stil costs much less than 180's. Good luck

Sure. If one feels that particular look is costumey I'd advise to skip the white bucks and boater. Try brown shoes and a four in hand tie. A Palm Beach or knit tie will look great with seersucker. It wouldn't be a crime to go hatless either.

Linen creases like hell though but damn it's comfy when hot.

The creasing is linen's charm!

ive never been a really big fan of seersucker, but then again, ive never really worn it very much in everyday use.

another thought i had was a navy blue linen blazer with khakis, kind of like Howard Hughes in The Aviator. i always really liked that look, so i might try to go for that too.

Belk, a chain shop in my part of the south, NC, runs really good sales on linen and seersucker starting about this time of year. I see Haspel and Nautica, for example, and these are often offered as separates which sometimes helps with the correct fit. Dunno if Belk ranges as far as DFW.

Given your time constraints I would suggest you use your own tailor rather than their in house tailor. I have taken to getting all of my new aquisitions tailored by the same gentleman regardless of where I obtained them.

Actually, I was recommending an in store purchase to get a proper basic fit (shoulders and jacket length) which is where so many men fall short. I've never shopped at JAB so I'll take your word on their tailors. And of course it is best to have a regular alterations tailor who will over time become acquainted with your physique as well as your personal preferences.

JAB tailors are decent, but allow 2-4weeks for simple jobs. [huh]

I'd say take it to a personal tailor who knows what you like. Or start a relationship with one now - it's never to early!

Wow! For alterations, anything over ten days is really pushing it.

Agreed. Two to four weeks is ridiculous for simple alterations. Are the JAB tailors that overwhelmed with work? I'd guess not based on the ill fitting and obviously untailored outfits on the streets.

I am not sure why there is such a delay. I used to use them regularly, but after fighting with the one here in Pensacola to get the sleeve length right on my tux, I found a local guy. He came well recommended, He makes all the uniforms for the Blue Angels. He is routinely able to turn around jobs for me in 3 days sometimes even less if I have a sartorial emergency. His prices are quite reasonable and for simple alterations like hemming pants and taking in through the trouser waist he is cheaper than JAB.

I do regularly consult with the in house tailor for things like initial fitting or to find out if certain alterations are even possible. But beyond that I go to my personal tailor.
