Hello everyone,
I just picked up this Schott A2 from a local thriftstore yesterday. The tag says 631 but can't find info everywhere, tried to scan the label and shows the item listings on japan marketplace.

So is this a Japan market Schott, or maybe a real Schott or maybe i got a fake one? And is this cowhide or steerhide?

Also, any info how to restore the jacket's shape would be appreciated

Doesn’t seem like something there’d be much incentive to fake.

These kinds of jackets are were so popular that you can find pristine examples cheaply, and the prices aren’t driven up by enthusiasts the way a 618 or something might be (despite being as nice if not nicer jackets).

I can't see someone going through all the trouble to fake a Schott jacket, only to mess up by putting an incorrect, non-existent model number on the tag, and then wadding it up to store it somewhere to put all those creases into the leather, making it less desirable to own, dropping its price...

looks like heat damage may be? or just prolonged folding

I have never seen a fake jacket. Copied designs, yes.

Occasionally japanese market will throw an obviously homage vintage tag onto jackets, but they aren't trying to convince anyone it's a genuine 1950s jacket or smth.
