With sincere condolences

I read your post first thing this morning and with tears have been trying to find the words all day to say how sorry I am.

Death is nothing at all
I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Rondo, Thanks for this sharing this with us. I believe it will bring a measure of comfort to many who have experienced the loss of those they love dearly.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, Rondo. I hope that you continue to see him in happy dreams - the ones you carry around with you all the next day after waking, smiling from time to time.

Parrots can be the most rewarding of pets, but I know what it's like to go through the frustration of a death and trying to find out what went wrong. We used to rehabilitate birds that had been smuggled into Singapore, and while we had many successes, not all of them made it. The autopies couldn't always tell us what had happened.

Rainbow lorrikeets are probably my favourites of our local birds in Sydney(alongside Sulpher Crested cockatoos, Galahs and corellas). They arrive on the balcony in groups ranging from single birds to a flock of 20, demanding they be fed (we try to provide nectar in sanitary conditions, as diseases can be spread when humans feed them). With their wonderful bouncing strut, they come barrelling up to the screen door, peer in and demand that we appear. Completely unafraid, they'll crawl all over us, mumbling and muttering, occasionally sqwaking and cocking a cobalt blue head on its side to peer at us with a red-ringed, terribly clever eye. They quarrel with each other, bounce around, hang upside down from the native trees and give everyone a piece of their mind...oh, they are little bundles of character!

Mojito,
That sounds lovely. Would you consider starting a new thread and posting some pictures?
I'm sure there are a bunch of us who would love to see them. :D

Maybe he went first to make it easier for me when my time comes.

For what it's worth, I like to believe that when my time to cross over comes, the cat-friends I've had over the years will all be there to meet me / guide me through.

Rondo -- my condolences to you on the loss of your beloved bird.

I, too, know that particular grief -- a few years ago I lost my beloved lovebird, Luna, a fiesty little character, so pretty and funny. Luna lived to be 18, a decent age for a lovebird, but he had lived with me for 17 1/2 of those 18 years.

I still miss the chirps and and squawks I received when I came home from work, whistling Claire de Lune to let the bird know I was home; Luna eating breakfast and dinner with me, perching on the side of my dinner tray to eat whatever he wanted; playing on top of his cage, on my kitchen counter, crawling up and down my shoulder, kissing my face, hanging out on top of my head.

Luna had character and emotion as much as any dog I've known, was so affectionate, emotional and could get angry when I was gone too long or ignored him. I thought of him as a little person, or perhaps myself as a big bird.

I feel blessed to have had that bird in my life and glad that I was there when he passed rather quickly one evening. I got to hold Luna and say goodbye.

Let us know that, when we pass to the Other Side, our beautiful friends will fly to greet us, it will be a joyous reunion.
