That shirt is so cool it needs to kept refridgerated. Prehistoric cave art, so, so cool. Unusual designs always make for interesting shirts, like Bob's daughter wearing that ethnic patterned dress, how cool would that be as a shirt?I have nothing to say about this shirt except that it is off-the-charts cool.
Agreed. My overriding criterion is that the shirt look cool as all get out. If a loud aloha looks that way, so be it, but many of my personal faves are relatively placid.Really, because many of my favorites are relatively understated.
Every wardrobe needs 20 of these shirts.Every wardrobe needs one of these shirts!
I salute those who seek out the holy grails--or tiki mugs, as it were--but of my 41 Alohas, there is only one I'm sure is an original. And that's fine by me. I'm more concerned with the look of the shirt--and the material from which it is made, preferably rayon--than its vintage. If the look of an Aloha from China or Korea blows me away, I'll purchase it. Likewise, if I see a ridiculously underpriced original in terrific condition, but it doesn't strike my aesthetic fancy, I'll leave it alone.Pulled one out even though it's still too cool to wear here in Wa. Summer starts July 5th up here. This is a favorite of mine although it's not vintage. Celebrates Tiki Kulture, of which I am a fan, so a ba***rd relation to Hawaiian shirts. Hope it doesn't offend the purists. Made in China for Kahala of Hawaii but nicely done and detailed, 100% silk. Normally would have passed on this because it's made in China but it was very reasonably priced off Ebay and once I got it I was impressed by it's quality.

The Hawaiian shirt/sweater combo is one I've been rocking for many a fall and winter. Just make sure that your sweaters are sedate in order to act as a foil for the florid collars. Thanks for the kind words everyone, and most of all, nice jackets! I think I'll try sweaters this winter with a Hawaiian underneath but stick the collars out over the sweater's neckline.
I've actually seen one or two Sun Surf's in a XXL. It could have been a figment of my imagination though.
No matter the body type there will always be pros and cons for every type of person for every garment. I'm as skinny as a rail-nice that I can fit into the smaller sizes, but I think larger guys pull off the look better a lot of the time.
Mike, if you're interested in reading about those cormorants in action, I suggest you pick up Ian Fleming's Bond novel, You Only Live Twice. It's an all-around great read, and a certain cormorant plays a significant role in it.Couldn't be happier with this latest Ebay snag. Fresh out of the bag in need of a press. True vintage Penney's (50's label) made in Japan 100% Rayon. Nicest Rayon I've seen/felt. I like birds so attracted to this featuring Japanese themed birds, Great White Herons on row boats and Cormorants, some on glass fishing floats. The ancient Japanese used Cormorants to fish with by tying a leash on their legs and a noose around their necks so they couldn't swallow the fish they dive for. I'm pretty sure this is also hand printed. Vintage cut very short in front as well as sleeves. Only 4 plastic pearl buttons, loop collar (with pockets for stiffeners, double pockets (non-matching like my other vintage Aloha shirts), double pleated back, and interesting sleeve hem sewing. Fits too!

That's googie as all get-out and I love it. I'm very parshul to the more abstract patterns. Two of my favorite things, Hawaiian shirts and mid-century modern, rolled into one!
