I love it! Is that a Milan style weave on the hat?

I LOVE the shoes, too. I've been looking at Spectators, Saddle Shoes, etc., lately. I love the two-tone design.

I actually passed on a really cool linen jacket this summer at Goodwill, thinking (of course) why would I get this?... I have nothing to wear with it.... Now I regret not picking it up.

Oh, shirt related. I bought 7 different Hawaiian shirts off ebay. Then found a New, With Tags, 100% silk shirt at Goodwill for $12.99. The brand escapes me at the moment, but it's a patterned, cool blue color.

The new shirt, that seems like an age in coming together, took another step to completion today. The arrival of the shirt buttons. Actually they are lapel pins which means still further work to be done, grinding the pin and butterfly constraint off, before gluing on a clasp that can be sewn to the shirt.
With the material laid out in it's panels ready for sewing, Tina asked what sort of buttons would I like? A difficult choice given that the cars are in different colours as well as as varying background shades. That's when I thought about a button with the MG logo on, but getting such buttons proved monumental, if not impossible, until I came across the gift page of the MG Owners Club catalogue. There I found the lapel pin, perfect, now all I have to do is make a button of it. Just to update you, here's the pins and the shirt material:

Those buttons! :O

Photos, photos, photos, pleeeeeeeease! I need to go back to bed right now, I start a nightshift in a couple of hours, but when I log on tomorrow morning, I do hope that you have had the time to take, and share a few pics.

Looks like a wide brim fedora, similar to some toquilla Panama hats from Ecuador. But from the photo, and my crap computer, it's hard to tell what the material is. The wine colored ribbon really sets it off nicely!

It's parasisal straw.
I'm not a huge fan of Milan's of any other heavy type of straw.
Ghis straw is super lightweight and wears like a dream in the summer heat. Like a cloud on your head.

Well, I would call it a wide brimmed fedora I think.

Glad you enjoy it Robert.

And I'm well thank you, hope that nightshift goes by fast.

I get nothing but pleasure from GHT's posts. The man is nothing but an inspiration. Love the wide brimmed straw fedora. Love the Aloha shirts. Carry on!
With compliments like that, it will be tough to get any of my hats on my head, not that I'm big headed, but as the song says:

I agree. Love to see all the shirts, shoes, hats, etc, from everyone, but I especially like to see what GHT is up to!

Mrs Fed and I dropped by the local Goodwill after an oil change yesterday. I grabbed a lambs wool/cashmere blend blazer, kind of a tweed style with green, blue and black all mixed together.

But, the big story is my favorite inexpensive Hawaiian shirt in 100% cotton, Pierre Cardin, was sitting there asking me to take it home. They usually run about $7 at this store, no matter the condition. This was was in great condition and I got surprised at checkout with a half price ringup of $3.49. Great!

Wowser! Three and half bucks, and in cotton too, at that price they are almost paying you. Most floral patterned shirts, off the clothing rail, are made in rayon, which when new, has a silk like quality but soon, after a number of washes, it will start to look limp, but cotton wears so well, even when it's well worn, it might look shabby, but will still hold it's crispness. Lucky you.

I never liked rayon much. I stick to cotton or silk... when I can afford it. I have a worn out cotton shirt I wear around the house, especially when it's hot. It's so thin there are tears hear and there and you can see the moon through the fabric on a clear night, lol.

I agree. Rayon looks fine at first, but quickly goes flabby after a couple of washings. I have slowly become a 100% cotton guy. Ironing is the price you pay, but it is worth it. Cotton breathes so well and is so light to wear. I've adopted a zen outlook on ironing so that it has become almost a moment for reflection.

With a natural fabric like cotton, you can easily extend the life of the colour, the pattern or both, by ironing the cotton garment inside out.

The MG patterned shirt is starting to take shape, the panels have all been sewn together and overlocked, the sleeves are in, but, as yet, need a hem and the bottom of the shirt needs to be hemmed too.

But it's does look like a shirt at last. The buttons are with a specialist who will turn the lapel pins into fastening buttons, watch this space.

I'm aware of the heritage of the aloha / Hawaiian shirt, I've had to do research with regards to a few pieces in my closet. I don't need a reeducation on the postwar surge of tropical culture.

I'm also painfully aware of the modern application of and stigma attached to such garments and would rather avoid being caught up in such things. Most people can't tell the difference between a late '30s rayon King-Smith and an ABC Stores poly/cotton job fresh off the plane.
You know, I really don't give a ruddy toss what the average schmo thinks about my shirt/s. I wear alohas because I like 'em, and because they evoke, for me, a better time.

Sharp shirts, fellas. I used to wear one now and then, but I don't think they're the kind of shirt you can wear now and then.

You have to be ok with the cliché aspect of them. I felt like I was carrying all of Pop Culture Americana on my shoulders - at any minute Marilyn and Jimmy Dean would appear and present me with the keys to a candy apple red '57 Bel Air and a cherry Coke.
And that's a BAD thing?
