There is Baron Hats in Burbank, Hollywood Hatters in Hollywood, Fedora Primo in Santa Monica and there is a hat shop in Long Beach in the Shoreline Village, but I am not sure if you are looking for service or for sales. They all have websites and I'm not sure if I can post their web addresses. Just look up the names and you'll find them all.
You might find that your local cleaner who touches hats in LA only does to to pack them up and sent them to baron, saving anyone the drive. I know two who do for sure.
If you're in Lonh Beach, you might consider checking the online site for Vilage hat shop, finding what you want, seeing if they'll get it to the local shop, then drop by to see, feel, and slip it on. The worst that could happen is they say no.
If you're looking for high end stuff, Hollywood Hatters gets my vote. It's a bit of a drive from Long Beach, but you'll probably find what you're looking for.
As I'm moving to the area, I've looked around. Baron Hats was impressive and I bought a straw hat from them. I was able to look at World Hats in Pasadena and Hollywood Hatters on Melrose in LA. Steaming and blocking was available at Barons and Hollywood, while World Hats was a bit disappointing. I'm going to be going this week to Village Hat Shop in Long Beach, so I'll let you know what I find.
