Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

A Founders All Day IPA was an excellent beer to enjoy outside yesterday evening.
Eric, you would probably enjoy Founders Green Zebra as a summertime ale.

Tomorrow June 1st is the beginning of the 4th annual Show-Me Craft Beer Month by the Missouri Craft Brewers Guild. June 26th will be the 4th annual Missouri Pint Day. Drink ‘em if you got ‘em!

Jack I have asked my local shop to take of delivery of the Zebra and other seasonal s. I guaranteed the shop that if they did not sell I would purchase them. We shall see if the distributor can come through.

Tonight it is pouring rain outside. I am tired and a bit under the weather. I say a wee bit of Laphroaig Quarter Cask will chase the flu away. This is only my second bottle of this offering. This Laphroaig I do like. I have not gotten after this Islay whiskey. Tonight the smokey is perfect. I poured a small bit for my wife. She does not ask why I am wearing a hat when I am enjoying the whiskey. I do wear a brim or peak when I imbibe.

I felt the need for a bit of warmth and a lighter beverage before an early bedtime tonight. Miso soup and Pho broth I combined. I added fermented bean curd and small squares of nori. I chose a light English Ale to accompany my "dinner."

Feel better good sir!

Excellent taste in whisky

Thanks. I am already feeling warm and will head for bed shortly. I start an early working weekend and the food/refreshment/sleep should steed me well.

Luck is mine. My wife enjoys the smoky whiskeys. Her preference is more of an Ardbeg style, but will sit through sharing some Laphroaig.

Enjoy your evening sir.

On this first day of Missouri Craft Brewers Guild month I was introduced to Jazzman, a dark Lager @ 5% ABV brewed by Vine Street Brewing, KCMO. A first for me, enjoyed at a nice bar I hadn’t been to in several yrs, I will likely become a regular again. Smooth thin Lager mouth feel with tastes of nuts & roasted malts. Cereal grains & just a touch of bitterness from the hops. No coffee or chocolate tastes, not a Stout. Enjoyed my day under a OR RD.

Now time for a digestif dram of Lagavulin 11 Offerman Edition, Charred Oak Cask.

@Hurricane Jack, @Short Balding Guy, I’m always amazed at your discipline with photo taking of your hats and drinks. I neglect to get pictures more often than not. But I always try to get a shot when I try something new or different.
Yesterday’s beer was a Lithuanian “Hoptomist” rich lager.
I decided to try this, having enjoyed the last Lithuanian beer I bought. Not quite as nice as the last one, but still very tasty. Darker and stronger tasting than any lager I recall drinking.

Akubra Capricorn was my hat choice yesterday.

Thanks Gary! Being interested in photographic composition helps, even though I probably don’t have any artistic brain cells. Helps with home pics. Good composition draws the viewer into the pic for a longer detailed look. I always wear a hat when I go out but sometimes skip taking bar & drink pics if a place is crowded, to avoid the unwanted attention it can draw.

The Hoptimist looks good! I like the color.

As is common in Japan, most of my walls are covered in white (though textured) wallpaper. I find it makes it difficult to get decent shots, hence I go to the one patterned wall we have downstairs and take most of my photos on top of the wine cellar.
The wallpaper creates an abstract background where the lines add to the pic & not take anything away from the subject matter. Good choice!

Great Lake Brewing's Imperial Grapefruit IPA was my beer choice last evening. This was a beer that I had traded to get. This Cleveland, OH brewer added a dose of grapefruit and ginger to this summer beer. I like it. A Summer beer that has a tangy grapefruit taste and a spicy heat from the ginger. Excellent. Well worth the effort to get a small sample to try.

Go Cleveland!

These Craft Beer Styles Are Dying. Can They Be Saved?

Time for real beer drinkers to rally together.

“With nearly 10,000 craft breweries now operating in the United States, beer lovers can drink a seemingly infinite number of styles and derivations, including mad-scientist concoctions…

“…the scope is becoming progressively narrow, leaving many beer styles out in the proverbial cold. While it’s easy to find half a dozen IPAs in nearly every taproom or corner store, styles like eisbock, roggenbier, bière de garde, Baltic porter, English mild and many more are almost nowhere to be seen.”

Never heard of a Baltic Porter, but it sounds right up my alley. I’ll have a search for one, by I expect that even if I find one, it’ll be crazy expensive.

It’s all about the malt & the yeast, the slightly higher ABV. Brewers in the UK such as Sammy Smith make a good one. A bit more expensive here too.

A Resistol SA 3X & a few Firestone Walker Brewing Blood Orange Wheats @ 5% ABV. A nice summer beer. I just recreased this SA & it still needs a little spoon work.

I feel a bottle coming out of the cabinet & a guitar out of its case for a Fri night on the veranda.
