Great pics, HJ. The Glencairn glass is really nice. I hope it’s just a licensing/distribution glitch that clears soon with your supplier.
What makes me curious BB is that this comes just a couple wks after I was told by the supplier in CA that they can only ship in CA & into OR right now because of the shipping backlog of UPS & FedEx. Sounds like BS to me.

There is a new local distiller of Bourbon here. Their flagship product is an aged High Rye blended with 15 yr old Oloroso sherry. Located in a warehouse district they're going to have a nice tasting room & bar when it can open post pandemic.

Curious to see if there are dramatic price increases if and when they resume normal distribution.

If the Bourbon is anywhere near as good as that entrance, it’ll be a keeper.

Sometimes Licenses can be suspended if a business is behind paying their payroll taxes, etc. Licenses are reissued when they pay up. I'm hoping it's just something like that (in both cases), being a new yr & all. But I do feel an ill wind blowing.

Everything has already taken a price crease with the tariffs, regardless of country of origin. He'll even Bourbons took it. Even if the tariffs are rescinded prices won't drop. If there is money to be made thru control, I could see gov't getting involved.

I'm not much of a Rye drinker but I would try it by the drink when things return to normal.

Quoting a paragraph from an email I received yesterday. I'm hoping this is just a lapse in licensing or something, & not a change in the political wind:

Quote
Unfortunately right now we can not ship spirits out of the state of Minnesota. We are working with the state for clarification but right now we are only shipping wine out of state and we are only shipping in the Midwest temporarily. We can ship all products within the state of Minnesota. Hopefully we will have more clarity in the next couple of weeks. Its a big blow to our business and hopefully can be rectified soon.

Have a great weekend,
Ace Spirits

End Quote

Last night was a new bottle of Lagavulin 16.

Jack your post had me visiting the website this morning. No clue! No changes to shipping due to COVID that I heard of. I googled liquiour shipping in Minnesota and see no recent changes. Who knows. I imagine Ace is anxious to get back to business and your business.

"WE ARE SHIPPING ALL PRODUCTS TO MINNESOTA. WE ARE CURRENTLY ONLY SHIPPING WINE TO MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NORTH DAKOTA AND WISCONSIN. WE ARE TEMPORARILY NOT SHIPPING TO ALL OTHER STATES. WE HOPE TO HAVE THIS RECTIFIED WITHIN ONE TO TWO WEEKS."

Yesterday afternoon I got back from work and decided to grill some catfish on oak coals for a dinner. After a long week with irregular hours I decided a Founders Mas Agave would be just the ticket. It is an imperial gose brewed with agave, lime and sea salt and then aged it in tequila barrels. Truly tasty. The ABV at 10% is not noticed at all. That is good, but caution when operating a snowblower or chainsaw.

My wife had one of Founders Agave Seltzer. I tasted it and it actually was good. I am not a big seltzer fan, but this is worthy of drinking. I grabed a pic of me tasting the selzer - looks like water in a pic!

Since you had some orders shipped for delivery but lived in the state, I didn't know if you would received the same email or not. I had 5 mixed case orders with them just in Dec, I think.

Late Sat I tried placing an order for shipping from CA since it had been a couple of wks, but they are still only shipping in CA & into OR.

Most curious!

Unique happenings. As a local customer this was not my experience. I did not receive any notice. My delivery was A-Ok. The whiskey arrived safely and exactly the time frame I requested. Post Covid I want to visit in person and scope the offerings. This will be a fun escapade, perhaps expensive.

Un-opened whiskey bottles at my house. I want to save the un-opened bottles for special occasions where I can savor and appreciate them. I still have some drams in current stuff for any needs. I count 9 opened bottles and 4 un-opened bottles. I certainly have enough for one short balding guy.

Cheers, Eric -

It came highly recommended by the dept manager at the Total Wine.
His recommendation reminds me of a time when I was invited on a wk long fishing trip business deal to Lake Fork, TX. A TX vendor had invited about a dozen guys from around the country, we all stayed together in a fishing resort & paired up with fishing guides every day. At days end when everyone was back in, the guides would stop & fuel their boats for the next days fishing, then take us to the resort.

At the fueling point an old man would sit out front. He also sold bait & tackle & he had a sign with a couple of crankbaits attached & it said, "fish are hitting on these". That time of yr Lake Fork is full of hydrilla & the bass are deep in the weeds. No way you could cast a crankbait in there & not hang it up. The only way to catch them was with large rubber worms fishing the weed bottoms or with live shiners under balloons for floats on top the hydrilla.

After about the third day one of the guys in the group, the type who was an expert on everything took it upon himself to correct the old man & tell him the bass were in the hydrilla hitting on worms, not crankbaits. The old man quickly sit up straight in his chair, spit out a big wad of chew & said,

"I know that, but I make more money on crankbaits than I do worms!"

Never will forget it!

Yup very often the case. This particular gentleman has given decent advice in the past. And at least if he was pulling some of that here. it was at a good price. Of course the more expensive stuff they let speak for itself

I have been curious about Islay. This may be a good starting point. Planning a beer restock trip this werkend, may take a look at the Scotch!
Typically Islay's tend to taste peaty, smoky, & salty. They have an oily & medium thick mouth feel, leaving oily curtains in the glass. My favorites would be from Lagavulin or Ardbeg. The Laphroaig's have strong tastes of medicinal alcohol & iodine, not favorites to me. Laphroaig Quarter Cask isn't bad. Non typical Islay's would be the Bunnahabhain's & Bruichladdich's but I have no experience with them. If need be it's ok to add just a drop or two of good water, no more than a half teaspoon at most. You ruin it if you drink it OTR.

Islay's pair well with beef or roasted chicken as an after dinner drink. Not so well with pork or fish.

These aren't grocery store or gas station Whiskys but you can get an idea of pricing on line. Lagavulin 8, Ardbeg Wee Beastie or Ardbeg 10, & Laphroaig Quarter Cask will be at the lower price point. PM me if you want to know more.
