So, I just got word that one of my go to hat stores, Hats and Hats of North Miami Beach (original sellers of the Porto Fino brand Columbian hats) are opening at least 2 locations in Atlanta, GA. The owner, in our email correspondence, mentioned relocating, but I'm not sure of the status of the NMB store. For years I've lived between NMB and Atlanta and still have my home in Atlanta, so this is great news for me, but if any other Loungers are living in the area we should give them a big welcome when they open and spread the word. Ms. Guzman says they will also be offering workshops so this is a great way to further spread the love.

Great to know! I’m in Miami and just learning about hats. Searching in Google for hatters didn’t bring much up, so glad to hear there’s a store.

I was recently in Colombia and purchased 2 hats; an aguadeño which is similarly built as a toquilla Ecuadorian hat, and a leather hat.

Deciding between a Borsalino or Akubra now, boy wish I could see at least one in person.

As a side note, do you wear felt hats in this heat?
I figure if the guys in Surfside can pull it off at least I can try! Lol

Hi @Zeuloa , welcome to FL.

I haven't heard any more news on the relocation since I posted this based upon what the owner told me then. We shall see
As for wearing felt in the summer, I switch between felts and straw. During the week I will wear a lighter felt hat unless it's blazing hot then it's straw only. On the Sabbath, like the folks in Surfside, I will wear my black felt, but sometimes I will wear a gray or black straw instead if the heat really calls for it..

Hey @jeffgarf , hopefully they will open a new store in NMB.
Any recommendations for light felt hats?
I have a large collection and many of the vintage hats from bands such a Barbisio, Borsalino and Stetson in Zephyr weight can be very lightweight. I also have some from Mallory and Knox that are fairly light. Nowadays on newer hats, I'm seeing some Open Road hats that might fit that bill. Really just look at the many photos and descriptions that have been posted on this board over the years and see if those that are described as lightweight are able to be purchased on the secondary market.
